Has anyone installed one yet? I'm interested to see what content they have and frequency the downlink transponder is

I'm going through to ellies on wednesday. So ill update once I have more info

Would of thought people would of jumped upon this by now, almost seems no one's interested.

that decoder price is putting me off big time, R3500 is not the right price to get started. R1500 would have been decent, esp considering that there is still the R299 a month price tag, with no guarantee that that price will remain at R299. Not that i expect it to remain at R299. However, the total outlay on this is just wrong, especially when you want to pull in as many customers as possible.

Think Altech should have gone with an early bird special, or a 1st 10 000 who buy, get it at say R1500. there after they can do what they or where they see fit.(which is again, is probably not the right way to go about it.)

also the lack of what content is available, is somewhat off putting. I really dont want to watch season 1 of breaking bad, or The walking dead eg, because then it just becomes a rather expensive version of SABC and ETV playing old content.

I like the idea though, its a good start by Altech mind, just think perhaps the execution of this is not right

You can get it on contract from Autopage with 2gbs data for under R500

those prices are very close to DSTV though. forget the fact that it possibly as an all round device offers alot more, but its just way to close to dstv, or indeed an uncapped adsl line etc. best would be to wait this one out and see the early reviews and uptake on it

Except no ads or TV schedule

I can't see anything for under R500 on their site. This seems to be the cheapest option on there.

Node console with Vodacom 2GB data bundle x 24 months
Node Subscription per month R299
Node & Vodacom 2GB data subscription X 24 months R290
Total Monthly Cost including VAT R589

This includes:

The Node home console on a 24 month contract with a free installation* voucher
A 2GB data bundle on a 24 month contract
Your monthly Node subscription of R299

The monthly Node subscription includes:

Video on Demand with 700 hours of premium entertainment and sports content
Smart TV with full internet access?
Home Monitoring of security and electrical devices

I'd double check their wording on the "Smart TV" bit if I were them. Also, note the (?) mark at the end :)

If they offered something similar for people who already have an internet connection at home, say for maybe R350pm with all that included, apart from the 3G data of course, it might look a lot more attractive to people. I agree that the R3500 price tag for the device is why a lot of people are probably reluctant right now.

Obviously the decoder has to include alot of additional hardware, over and above the normal PVR DSTV decoder, which give the price tag, but still - a launch special would have helped

and yes - please - since it is only a fixed list of shows, please provide the list? ( and planned future additions?)

guess the major problem being that the included decoder hard drive can only fit so many data before it gets full, so their content list (at presumably 720p quality), will be extremely small.

This means that their list of content will have to be "refreshed" every month or two, thus dropping content that you could possibly still be watching.... sigh no thank you

Am I missing something here? 2GB is basically nothing if you need to stream content...

Yes you are missing something. The content isn't streamed. It get sent via satellite. The data is just an added bonus for the wifi in your house.

if i understand the functionality correctly, the Node needs the Wifi to enable two way communication to the Altech servers. eg - if you purchase rental on a movie, confirmation is sent to their servers, and the movie is delivered via satellite...

probably also used to very that your user login/ subscription is up to date?
