Alternative Cryptocurrencies (General Discussion & Trading)

The BTCP block reward a couple of days ago for miners put BTCP projected value at about $220-$300 value.

The dev team changed it on March 1,

https://twitter.com/bitcoinprivate/status/969255954565877760

After much deliberation with our team, miners, and the community, we have decided to increase the block reward to 1.5625 #BTCP with a halving every 210,000 blocks (~1 year). You can read more about these facile changes in the revised whitepaper:

the reward was initially set at 0.78125 coins per block, then to be halved come April.

I'm bullish. Based on fundamentals BTCP could really be a big winner. Bitcoin with added zk-snarks privacy feature, which a few months ago Vitalik Buterin said was best for privacy. He rated the privacy tech higher than ring signature privacy (ie. Monero). Privacy coins are going to be big in 2018.

Such a coin already exists, BTCZ. Only been around for like 7 months.

My issue is not with BTCP as a technology, it is the manipulated value at the entry point. These ZCL guys didn’t create anything new, really. They didn’t even do their own replay protection. Anyone can go and have a look where ZCL is in progress, it died many months ago, and that is why BTCP is its revival at a super high re-entry point. There is no current known use-cases or implementation… it is all about the money, and these guys are riding the BTC waves.

This is where people like LazyLion and Sinbad are correct on this topic.

Many devs dump their coin on the high and then buy back on the low. Charlie Lee pointed this out and I wouldn’t be surprised that he is a hypocrite on the topic.

Like you said, we already have BTCZ and BTCH dropped some time ago. BTCH is superior in technology than any other BTC drop, but it is an asset (and non-minable) coexisting alongside KMD. There are also many other privacy coins tackling the same issues which isn’t abusing the BTC name like Commercium, ZelCash, Hush, ZenCash, etc. and Monero and Zcash has always been a thing.

Progress made on ZEC is phenomenal, and BTCP will ride on their team’s ecosystem.

BTCP dropped to below $200 on KuCoin, but remember that the volume is still rather low.

Fck me, we need some new buzzwords. These are starting to make me either cringe or laugh.
Haha, its not a new buzzword because of crypto though, nothing like the cringeworthy "moon", "lambo", or "hodl" etc

It is thrown around a lot though, but I think its just because this market changes so much quicker than other markets.

One of the reasons I like BTCZ. It listed at a low entry point and since then has gone 4x. Also they are 100% community driven. Still worth pretty much squat but I'm not mining it to make instant money.

These coins will go nowhere without marketing and in the crypto space it all hangs on the centralised exchanges.

Community driven coins hardly have the money available to be listed on the big exchanges.

When it comes to the technology, you need to ask which coin will be better adopted.

The hash rate also spiked. This was posted by their 'new' community team on their bitcointalk ANN,

ZClassic Development Consideration:

• Masternodes
• Anonymity, 100% Privacy
• TOR/I2P Integrated Wallet
• Improved Scalability
• Incentives to attract more Miners
Updating ZClassic's code base to Zcash's current version
(Right now both ZClassic and Bitcoin Private are developed on very old, outdated code)

Do note, this message is not from the original/previous ZClassic team.
This is a list of ideas being gathered for discussion by the potentially new dev team.

Please feel free to submit additional ideas/suggestions to us here.
Thanks!

Strange… so ZCL announces a new community team yesterday, reminds everyone that the tech is outdated today, and pump happens. I wonder whether BTCP on the high were dumped and pumped into ZCL today. They posted,

Forming a new ZClassic Development Team

Hello all,
Myself and a small group of developers are interested in carrying on the development of ZClassic, and taking over these responsibilities as a new development team.

As we understand, the current/previous team will no longer be developing ZClassic, and will instead now focus on Bitcoin Private.

I'd like to ask: Is anyone is aware of active discussions regarding the formation of a new development team for ZClassic?

Myself and a few others are working on forming the new development team.
Would any developers be interested in becoming a part of this new team?

I am also contacting the previous ZClassic developers to let them know of our interest.

Please feel free to respond here or private message me regarding this.
Thanks and kind regards!

I wonder what Rhett Creighton’s stance is on this and how much access he will be giving them? Maybe they are trolling the community, all they will have is the name... Who knows, it could be Creighton reviving ZCL since he owns MANY shares.

The Future of Zclassic

Many rumors have emerged suggesting that a new development team has taken over Zclassic. As of now, no development team has approached us to discuss further development of the project nor does the Bitcoin Private team intend to continue active development. Furthermore, we have no intention of handing the project over to a new team without significant experience or a comprehensive development plan.

So what does this mean in the short and long term for Zclassic? We will discuss the short term first. Currently, the Bitcoin Private Treasury’s sole responsibility is to help fund the Bitcoin Private project. Now that the fork has passed, the treasury will no longer support the Zclassic project as of April 1, 2018.

Short-term Implications for Zclassic

The Zclassic nodes will be shut down by the end of March. Because it is fairly low cost, the Zclassic DNS seeder will remain active. This will allow the community to set up Zclassic nodes which can act as DNS seeds and allow the network to be maintained. We will not be responsible for these nodes, their maintenance, or their integrity.

The current official Electrum wallet servers will be shut down by April 1, 2018. ElectrumX peer discovery will be enabled before that time and a set of dedicated community hosted ElectrumX servers will replace the current ones in an updated client release. We will not be responsible for these servers, their maintenance, or their integrity.

Long-term Implications for Zclassic

We have decided to open a Zclassic project proposal process in which teams can form and put together a proposal. All proposals must be sent to the following email address:

...

In the event that blockchain-breaking bugs have been discovered in Zclassic, the Bitcoin Private team will implement critical fixes, until the proposal process is completed or March 1, 2019, whichever comes first.

Besides this, the BTCP team still needs to update their Zcash upstream...

Anyone looking into Cardano? (ADA)
Wish I'd bought back when it was $0.02...still had a buy order I cancelled thinking it might drop a bit lower. Ah well. Still seems like a cool project that's active and developing. You holding or thinking of buying?

Anyone looking into Cardano? (ADA)
Might also want to check out Zilliqa. Still in testnet phase (using an ERC20 placeholder token in the meantime) but seems like very active development. Lower supply than Cardano and currently $0.05. I'm gonna look into it a bit more the next few days and see what the markets are doing. Haven't being actively trading for a while now with these sideways markets and feel like getting back into it a bit more. Looking around for new projects to support.

Anyone have an opinion on the free basic income tokens?
I've just signed up for Swiftdemand to see what it's all about mostly. I don't have an opinion either way just yet.
