And many more, like QTUM (which is also regarded as a scam by many), then you have Ripple which has smart contract capabilities and similar with Verium…
 
One thing though, most coins are ****coins, the vaporware, but many people troll the cryptocurrency markets, especially on bitcointalk. At this stage, everything is still a gamble, but to call a coin a scam is reaching, who know which coins will achieve application status in the real world. BTC is luckily driven by trade in commerce, otherwise many other coins are superior in design and task, but still the BTC technology roadmap is there to keep the coin competitive in the market.

This is ignoring coins which are in design a mechanism to pump and dump. It is worthless in application, but has ‘value’ in an unregulated trading market.

The devs working on dex systems, they are onto something as they this will give ‘lesser’ coins much more value down the line.

It is okay to call an ICO a scam, some whitepaper reads are way too promising (overpromising), when in design the developers are reaching too high, but some ICOs are quite progressive and I support that. Blockchains has so much potential.

We had an incredibly productive month! Many highly skilled developers joined and started to work on various NEO projects. Huge amount of community-created high-quality contents were received. We believe we are on the right track to let the community be more involved in the process of making NEO a top-notch global contender. The development of NEO and related projects will be more open, transparent and globally distributed.

The NEO website was a first try. We received over 80+ design submissions and got the one that we all loved. Working remotely is a challenge. It gains talents and diversity but sometimes at the cost of efficiency. To live up to everyones expectations, we have decided to postpone the launch of the website by two more weeks. The Antshares to NEO rebranding has been started with the migration of twitter followed by reddit and slack (see updated links in the side-bar) and will be completed on August 8th, which happens to the same date we launched our ICO a year ago. Exchange symbols, node software, official website, and other social media accounts will be updated during this period.

Interaction with the community is crucial. We will therefore hold a two-hour founders' AMA with Da Hongfei & Erik Zhang on Thursday, July 27th, starting 10pm Beijing Time (10am EST, 3pm GMT). Details will be released in a separate announcement.

Yes. they are trying to take on the likes of eBay... anyway.. I think I will hold on to it.. ride the wave and see what happens.

Also bought Ripple, NXT and Monero.. all seem to be holding steady.

I'd like to hear (read) your views about IOTA's tangle system, as opposed to Bitcoin's Blockchain system? The tangle system has, according to their websites and founders, no transaction fees and is infinitely scale-able. There are no miners, hence why it's fee-less.

Update on Antshares (NEO), now officially NEO 2.0, well, on the 8th of August 2017

Update to NEO 2.0

First of all, a big thank you to all of our supporters and contributors out there. July has been a busy month for all of us, not only with rebranding and preparation for NEO 2.0, but also because of the attention and traction that we have been gaining abroad. Our development efforts are now divided into two fronts; a locally managed development team in Shanghai, and a community driven international team by the name City of Zion. We are all very proud to be working on the NEO platform together with all of you.

The rebranding is now in full progress. Social media and source code has been renamed, and exchanges are to follow. Our new website design is finalized and we are working together with the winning contributor to build all the webpages, which will go live on August 8th. We have in retrospect realized that the community expected a “switch” on July 24th where the whole rebranding process was completed in a second. The website did take longer time than expected and is thus delayed, and our power to manage the name switches on exchanges is limited. We realize that we could have managed the expectations better and communicate clearer with all of you, which is also why we want to have an AMA together with you. The AMA will take place on our Reddit at 10pm (Beijing Time), July 27th.

Finalizing update to NEO 2.0

Along the rebranding to NEO, we are taking the opportunity to update the blockchain network. The Antshares network 1.x has limited smart contract functionality, so we will update it to the NEO network 2.0 with a full smart contract system. The whole update process will be done by August 8th as a celebration of our 1-year ICO anniversary. It will be another busy two weeks for all of us, so we thank you for patience and understanding of our tech focus these coming days.

The following is our upgrade process for NEO network 2.0:

1. We will first need to upgrade all non-consensus nodes. Exchanges, blockchain explorers, and other services, are required to upgrade to NEO 2.0 before August 8th.

2. Regular users can, but are not required to, update to the new client before August 8th.

3. On the day of August 8th, we will upgrade all consensus nodes to NEO 2.0.

4. After all consensus nodes are updated, users who have not updated to the new client will be prompted to do so when starting the old Antshares 1.x client.

5. It is the same blockchain, so you can copy the "Chain" folder from the old AntSharesCore into the new NEO 2.0 client folder to speed up the blockchain syncing.

6. If you have your NEO/ANS, NeoGas/ANC in an exchange, then you don't need to do anything.

7. All your assets are safe and secure during the whole update process.

I wanted to sell my holding, like all my alt. currencies, and put it into BTC, but I decided now that NEO is publicly moving to a higher stage that I will keep my NEO holdings. Good things to come, the Founders already discussed some things on reddit today, like their team size, goals and so on, but it is the support they have which might push them above ETH, that is whether the Americans support it down the line. Because well, US vs China… blockchains, this is going to be worse than the race to the moon.

I hope that NEO reach high and grab the bulls by the horn, it is a very open technology that they have which is cool as it is near endless in choice. Then again, it is what EOS is targeting as well…

Ethereum is mineable and I guess that is what gives them traction, also until they decide to make GPU mining redundant :whistle: which may be sooner than many people think.
