Not dying... just taking a nap for a while. I do however think that it's unlikely to to reach the type of adoption by the banks that justifies a $1 - $2 price.

Without decentralisation it may as well just be a banking protocol licensed by Ripple Inc. But it's the fact that so much of it was pre-mined and held by Ripple Inc is the biggest reason why I don't like it.

I'm considering buying more btc ( there's money I saved up to buy crypto) . But I'm a bit skeptical on whether btc itself will recover and whether that's a good investment .

Switch to BTC value and you'll probably see they're only down 8 - 12 %. If you track the value with fiat a lot of what you're seeing is just bitcoins value going down. If you open a chart that shows your altcoin/btc trading pair they're probably holding a bit better than you think they are.
