What alternative clients(not kodi) are available, seems Plex is forcing the Plex Pass sub.

Something similar like Infuse on iOS would be great.

Gave up on Plex ages again, every now and then I give them a bash but they’ve really just become annoying since they added in this public content crap.

Makes it that much more annoying to get to your own content, plug-ins are a complete las, in general the interface is confusing.

Emby is just soo much cleaner and easier to use, plus you get multiple profiles for free to. Pretty much nothing useful outside of America and some parts of EU are hidden behind the subscription.

I have yet to come across any application that is remotely as good as Plex. Let alone free. In fact, Plex is so good it was absolutely worth my while and money to purchase a lifetime sub.

Not looking for a change.
I personally use Infuse on iOS, and I know VLC also supports it on iOS.

VLC doesn’t seem to support it on Android and I just can’t just buy the unlock option like in the iOS Plex. I have no need for Plex Pass.

My brother watches Plex from VLC :/

Is there an error message or anything you're getting?

Unless I’m missing something the Android app doesn’t have an option to connect to a Plex Media Server?
To clarify this isn’t on a local network(UPnP).

I use Plex, never experience them forcing the Plex Pass sub. Maybe I don't understand, but how are they forcing you?

Downloaded the app, the options to unlock are basically the Plex Pass sub with payment options monthly/yearly.
I don’t see a once off option just for the app.

I run Plex on my LG TV and on my Roku. Have been using it for years, and never looked back.

Unfortunately your options are limited if you want to use Plex on mobile / tablets - you have to pay for Plex Pass. The only free clients are for TV's, media players, consoles, etc.

However, if you cast from a mobile device, you don't need to pay for it.

AFAIK there is no way around this.

I just want to buy the Plex app, if not another app can also do.

Not local? Is your Plex server in another location than where you want to use the app?

Wat? I use the plex app on my Tab A7, without Plex Pass. Or are you also talking about streaming to another location, other than local network?
Only reason I see, where someone might need Plex pass, is 4k support and remote streaming.

You don't need to see the live TV / "public content" at all. Just unpin it from your library or move to the end of your home page.

Just pay for a lifetime sub. Did it in 2014 and apart from Windscribe lifetime it’s the best money I've ever spend.

Need to sideload the app on my Samsung Smart tv. No thanks.

It comes with my Hisense, but it’s just a **** app.

I used Plex a few years back when I had an XBox purely for the 4k, but the UI was just so kak I went back to emby which at the time had not been given the required access by MS to support 4k.

It was better to watch 1080p than deal with the garbage that is Plex.

As it comes with my TV I have it another bash a month or so ago and the setup was a pain, the UI is in no way remote friendly and my TV, which was the reason I went through all the effort was the only device that would not connect to the server.

That app is just a ****ing joke.

Try this, unless I am misunderstanding your problem. This allows a once off purchase:
This. It's $5 once off to activate Plex on your Google account. That's hardly going to break anyone's bank.

I use Plex without issues on my Samsung and Hisense TVs with no need for the pass.
