Alternative Plex Client

This. It's $5 once off to activate Plex on your Google account. That's hardly going to break anyone's bank.

I use Plex without issues on my Samsung and Hisense TVs with no need for the pass.
Yup. My sibling bought the app once off to use on their phone to connect to my server. (lifetime sub). On their hi happle TV, they didn't need to buy it to still connect to my server remotely AFAIK.

It comes with my Hisense, but it’s just a **** app.

I used Plex a few years back when I had an XBox purely for the 4k, but the UI was just so kak I went back to emby which at the time had not been given the required access by MS to support 4k.

It was better to watch 1080p than deal with the garbage that is Plex.

As it comes with my TV I have it another bash a month or so ago and the setup was a pain, the UI is in no way remote friendly and my TV, which was the reason I went through all the effort was the only device that would not connect to the server.

That app is just a ****ing joke.
Well Hisense (with all due respect) has **** software support so one can expect the app to be crap too in a way.

The Plex app on my OLED works nearly flawlessly. It streams 4K UHD without breaking a sweat unless the audio stream is DTS (which my TV doesn't support ) so Plex transcodes the audio. That works but if I then try to turn on subtitles - game over but that's because my server itself is not beefy.

My sibling is using the Plex App on their Apple TV 4k to stream remotely and it works well until their bandwidth is maxed out on high UHD streams. But they should upgrade their internet, as I forbid transcoding (except for audio).

The best device for Plex is an nVidia shield as it is the only one that fully supports lossless audio (in fact it's the reference media player).

In any case, the app layout , use is getting better (not the best I agree) . You can turn off all the Plex.TV channels - this is per profile. So it's disabled on the house and kids profile but enabled on mines.

The Plex app is crap, not the Hisense version of it. It’s crap on the XBox, Android TV, iPhone and iPad too, it’s the same app and that app is not designed to work with a remote control.

Can’t blame Hisense for Plexs inability to make a suitable app.

I had the XBox media remote, it was the only media app that did not support the Play and Pause buttons. Like WTF.

They a bunch of silly def monkeys who think everyone on every device is sitting with a keyboard and mouse.

I think you may be the problem.

I open plex app on my TV either via TV app or on my AppleTV. I use my TV remote to choose/play content this works even when AppleTV is the source - It's simple enough that my 5 year old can do it?? So what are you saying it doesn't work with a remote

I mean via HDMI CEC, even with my then 10 year old Samsung TV, connected to same AppleTV, I used the Samsung TV remote to navigate and use the appleTV and all its apps incl Plex. No need to even use the appleTV remote?

What am I not getting about your pain point?

Are you sure you're using the right app? I've always found the app easy to use on all of my remote control driven devices (rokus mainly) and on iOS it's even simpler.

Tbh using the iPhone and iPad version, it’s crap compared to Infuse.
Hence this thread…

Plex isn’t lacking money or engineering talent to licence the codecs or fix their player.

Never used infuse and since most of my viewing is done on the tv via the Roku I probably won't. That said there's nothing I can complain about when it comes to the iOS app.

Strange. Been using it since around 2012/13 and never had a problem whereas the Emby apps always felt unpolished to me.
