Middle of the holidays and the family wants to send Christmas emails... Of course ;)

Got an iGadget with an @mweb address and a Vodacom SIM. Vodacom is kind enough to intercept (and mangle) anything on port 25 through their terrible smtp relays which are blacklisted as usual.

Anyone know if MWeb has an smtp auth server that accepts connections on anything other than port 25. Perhaps the standard MSA port of 587?

Why are you still using an ISP-based email address? Get yourself a Google account.

FWIW when I've had the twin misery of setting up pop/smtp mail on an itoy on Vodacom I've found that you can use -only- voda smtp which, as you say, is mangled for you. The only exception to this I've seen is using smtp.gmail.com when on a Gmail for domains account.

works on my side , you can also use smtp.mweb.net
You sure about that? What happens when you 'telnet smtp.mweb.co.za 587' while using Voda 3G?

I think I see what's happening... :mad:
They're not just intercepting port 25 - Vodacom are actually spoofing the DNS!
$ dig smtp.mweb.co.za +short
196.11.146.149
The IP being returned is one of Vodacom's blacklisted relays... :(
