Alternative to UNISA

I've completed a National Diploma in IT through UNISA and want to register for the Advanced Diploma in Information Resource Management, eventually upgrading it to a B.Sc later. The problem is UNISA isn't replying to emails or answering their phone. The application status for the Advanced Diploma is just staying at "Pending".

I'm getting quite tired of waiting for UNISA and study time is getting less the more I wait. Does anyone know of any other place I could study instead? I need to do it through correspondence as I am working full time.

Thanks

I don't know what is happening there, and I am in the same boat as you. I suspect UNISA can't cope with the volumes of applications, and now they are in a bind and they need to hire more temporary hands, however because of funds they are unable to do that, at least I think.

They have had delays with this year's applications. Apparently everyone will be let know tomorrow.

You are not alone. Maybe you should read your emails from them :)

I have been reading the emails. The latest one I received and the only one that wasn't automated said I had to submit my final results (Which haven't been released) within 10 days or my application will be forfeited. How am I supposed to submit my final results if they have not even released them yet? I also think it's stupid to have to submit any results as my Diploma is by UNISA anyway. They could just look it up on their own systems and process my application.

Hallo apologies not an answer for you but how long did it take you to finish your course. Ive passed the first 12 modules of the same course but stopped about 2 years back. Want to continue though. Also working full time how is the complete course in general ?

I did it in 3 years and 6 months while working full time. I could've done it in 3 years but I started in the second semester and two of the modules were year modules, so that delayed me by 6 months as I could only pick 4 subjects in my first semester.

If you decide to start again, let me know. I may have some second-hand textbooks I could sell to you.

Hi c10n3d_0r6

Were you able to register for the Advanced Diploma in Information Resource Management?
Have you asked Unisa if you would indeed be able to the BSc Honours in Computing afterwards?

I'm busy with the Diploma and want to go this route because of the Btech not being offered anymore.

Thanks!

I've just finished the Advanced Diploma. I've applied for the BSc Honours in Computing and last I checked it was a possible route. Still waiting for the final acceptance letter. I'll update here as soon as I know more.

Congrats! And thanks for the reply. Please do let us know if you got accepted to do BSc hons.

I don't want to do the Advanced Diploma and then afterwards get told that I can't do the Bsc hons. Then I'd rather try to do Btech at another university that still offers it.

Regards

The BTech is being phased out everywhere. I'm busy with this Advanced Diploma now, and it seems that BSc hons is still a valid path. They changed the sylibis of the Advanced Diploma though, so now I have to do an extra semester (they changed the one subject, so now I can't get exemption on it).

I'm sorry to hear about that. But nothing surprises me when it comes to Unisa. Could you please also let us know when you have any confirmation from Unisa or their brochures that one would definitely be able to do the BSc hons after completion of the Advanced Diploma?

Thanks!

I just got an email from Unisa to say my application has been processed and I've just completed my registration. Still waiting for them to confirm it though.

I've been sending emails to everyone I could think of for the last two weeks trying to sort it out.

Usually you have to pay before the registration gets processed.

They usually only process registrations late Feb. This is because some people, like myself, write exams in Jan/Feb for last years modules so they need to await outcomes of that, especially when your new modules have prerequisites.

Also once you register there is a minimum payment amount that they e-mail you in a statement. They won't even look at your registration unless your current balance is above that minimum.

Because of the research nonsense. They make you learn how to do a research proposal for the first year, then second year you create the proposal and do the research. Had to do it in my BTech and have to do it now in my BSc Honours. Rven more annoying is they wouldn't give me exemption when it is the same thing, even taught by the same lecturer, just different module codes.

The research script is one Module that lasts one semester. However, so far it is rather difficult. Hey literally threw me into the deep end with this research crap. It is definitely doable in one year, but really difficult once you introduce that research problem.

You need to do that at the offices. I have learnt that no matter what you do, you need to at least go into their admin offices. It is the only way I have managed to sort out my registrations.
