Hi all,

I'm pretty desperate here: I'm moving to a new premises and checked with Telkom that ADSL was available only to be told now that it is available but there's not equipment at the exchange (!!!!!).

I'm a web developer and need broadband. 3G is too costly for the data I use and Iburst doesn't cover my area. Is there anything else?

If 3G is too costly, I doubt you'd get anything much cheaper. You could ask Telscum if WiMAX is available in your area, because you can't get ADSL, but it's in trials at the moment.

Satellite is an alternative, but it's slow and pricey ;)

Local WISP's? Just watch out, some charge R3000+ for equipment and installation, which they REMOVE if you unsubscribe.

Welcome to myadsl :)

Be very careful when choosing a WISP; Some of them are thieves!

Where are you moving to? Not your address, but the area. Perhaps someone on the forum lives in the area...

... so it seems like I'm screwed. 3G would cost me around R2500pm for the data I use.

I guess my only option is an anti-Telkom media campaign. With the bundles of money they make it's no problem for them to make sure the exchange has the equipment, it's just not worth their while (ah the joys of a monopoly), so I'll make it more trouble for them not to put it in.

...preparing for battle!
