I use Rain as well. Not for long, though.Hi everyone, hope you are all managing through these tough times with the Coronavirus pandemic.
I am using a Huawei B618 Router, and a Rain SIM for internet access for the past year or so.
I am renting a place that unfortunately does not have an ADSL line, and the landowner does not want to install one for us.
Despite the internet access being capped and quite costly, due to easy setup + decent speeds, I have stayed with Rain as my ISP.
However for the past five days, the internet speed drops to unusable speeds at random intervals, with the ping fluctuating all the way to the 1000s. I have tried to contact support which was not very helpful, and now entirely unavailable.
I am looking for alternatives, and seems like Cell C and Telkom provide a similar service. Is there anyone that can provide insight to how these companies are compared to Rain? And is LTE the only alternative I have since Fibre/ADSL is not available?
I stay in Kenilworth, Cape Town if that is of any assistance in answering some of my questions.
Thank you for your time.
The randomness in connecting and speed is not area or towers or whatever.
It is Rain. It is unpredictable and fluctuates like a rat on speed. Now fast then suddenly off. Then slow then fast again etc.
Totally undependable.
I did use MTN LTE which was stable but speeds wat throttled to 10Mbps.
That made me leave them.
This week MBB reported a new MTN fixed LTE though which seems to promise fast speeds. Pretty expensive uncapped but just expensive capped.
I am probably going to try that.
Anybody reading this and has tried this new MTN service, pleeeez report on it.
