Alternatives to Truecaller - this is what I've been dealing with for about a week now.

Interesting, Truecaller also went haywire after an update on my Redmi Note 2 last week so I uninstalled it. I find this app to be very intrusive of late.

For Android I'll recommend Should I answer?:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mistergroup.muzutozvednout&hl=en

Then on a side note:
Unlike Truecaller, Should I Answer? also doesn't collect your whole contacts list and their personal information without their permission. Truecaller should be removed from the App Stores (and probably thousands of other apps).

"By accepting the Truecaller Privacy Policy and/or using the Services You consent to the collection, use, sharing and processing of personal information as described herein. If You provide us with personal information about someone else, You confirm that they are aware that You have provided their information and that they consent to our use of their information according to our Privacy Policy."

My Truecaller also went haywire, installed DU Caller and no problem

Although I dont have battery problems with True Caller, I don't like their privacy policy and ads.

Just gave DU Caller and Should I Answer?. Unfortunately both of those failed to identify a few numbers in my call list which TC got right.

By the way, xrapidx, what Android version are you running? I remember there was an issue at some stage, quite a while ago, where the device would continually scan for media and generate thumbnails for images, where it was only supposed to do that every now and again. And it would show up as Gallery under power usage stats.

I can believe people are still using TrueCaller. I hope you have let everyone in your contacts know that you have shared their name/phone number pairing with everyone in the world. Not only that, but if the contact on your phone has an email address, twitter account, FB account,..... you have made all this public without their consent.

Goto Truecaller and type in the phone number 083 123 5467. Send a message to everyone of your contacts apologising and give then the unlist link, http://www.truecaller.com/unlist , to have their details unlisted.

Android 6.0.1

I just use the new Google phone app which has built in spam call reporting.

Not available. Trying DU Caller

How about the Presidential Spokesperson Dr. Bongani Ngqulunga? Simply do a search on the SA Gov web site and there is his cell number. Goto Truecaller web site and there is his gmail address.

Coming from someone who uses Doogee phones with a Chinese botnet installed. Irony?

Why don't you just try finding it on TrueCaller if everyone's details are all there?
