Hi guys,

I am looking to update a room at the end of my house and install a new bigger aluminium window frame. 2m x 1.8m

I have got a couple of quotes from some suppliers on Kandua and some guys on the web.

Pricing is so vastly different from R3400 all the way to R13000.

Any insights into what I should be looking out for and which may suggest why some quotes are so cheap vs the others?

Don't go through kandua

Pick standard size which you can get from a building supplier like Builders.

Checked Leroy Merlin and Builders - their prices are coming in at about the R3000 mark. Which again seems strange that there is such a price difference.

But based on the above I will most likely go with one of them. Thanks

Is your quotes for the window itself or also including building work. As @GrootVoet mentioned, stick to standard size frames. the moment you go off standard, the prices can go crazy. the previous owner of my house replaced all the windows with alluminium but the install quality as well as the window quality was k*ck, so also check the sealing of the opening windows before they are installed.

I replaced a bathroom window with Aluminum. It was a standard size but the usuals (builders, etc) didnt have the frosted glazing or the color I wanted. Bought it from www.premiumaluminium.co.za and it cost basically the same as a premade one.

The quotes are just for the frame and the glass. Some include installation, but i will have my own builder to do it as there is other work i am doing with that room

I contacted premium aluminium 2 days ago to request a quote. They did not get back to me

Typical useless service in this country
I give a company 24hrs to respond
If they take longer they can voetsek elsewhere

Over the years I've replaced all the old steel frame windows and outside doors (except one which will be done within the next few months) with Aluminum ones and it was worth every cent.

Just take note with Aluminum frames its relative easy to remove the glass and burglars love it so take it into account.

Currently changing my windows as well. I was told there was a recent price increase hence quotes a few weeks back were cheaper, compared to recent quotes.

Check if the glass quoted is 6.3mm Safety glass / shatterproof and not the cheaper 4mm non safety glass.

I got 5+ quotes and they were crazy priced. Ended up going with the manufacturer that did my previous windows. They well priced and includes removal / installation and, follow up visit to check for touch ups on plastering etc.
