Hi Guys,

I have a am vinyl cutter 1310mm.

My usb port on the printer itself got damaged and my only option is to use the serial port.

i download the drivers and it loaded as com port but it refuses to send any cutting to my cutter, when i open up flexsign
production manager asked me to choose cutter but the am cutter is not on the list, is there an alternative cutter name that i can choose from the list similar to to the am cutter.

I also tried dr stika software which came with my roland cutter but still nothing

Not sure if i missed a step, please help..

the barcode on my machine is am7975209493.

Kind regards
JO

Is it a desktop computer?

Can you guy a USB expansion card and install it into the computer?

Hi LAzyLion ,,

My cutter as a usb and serial connection, the usb on my cutter got damaged.

Aaah. OK. I see. Theoretically, the Serial Connection should work if you have loaded the drivers for it.
Can you take a photo of the barcode plate with the model number and the serial number so that we can check if you are using the right software?

my barcode just as am7975209493

the guys at am said i need to use drivers "For 2014 Model or Earlier"

Why not try a USB to Serial cable.

Those things are a pita. I use them for my bar code machines as the Meteor that we got from noah when he sold the ark for braai wood only has parrallel. It creates a virtual port and as soon as you plug some new usb drive or whatever in it ****s with the port address.

Then you have to uninstall, plug it into a new usb port and reinstall the drivers to get the damn thing working again.

When you install the driver does windows pick up the device? Or do you install it as an offline installation?

And is the device showing online in the printers and faxes window once the drivers are installed and port is selected?

i Installed and set the port number as printer, when i print it just shows printing and then disappears.

The port should be set as one of the virtual usb driver ports, each usb to serial/parralel will create 2 virtual ports iirc. So if you go to printer properties, and ports, it should be set to either

usb001/002 whichever one it is (Virtual Printer Port) and once the correct one is selected and cutter is restarted the printer should show under Printers&Devices as ready/online.

the printer does show ready but does nothing, and the port for the printer on device manager is com3

if you are ising a usb to whatever cable it must be a virtual port. not com.

those com ports dont allow feedback so if you install a printer thereon os will always assume device is ready even when switched off. set port to virtual printer port on usb.

Im just using instructions provided from the am.co.za site.

The serial/USB cables or adapters are not all the same - there seem to be at least two different chipsets that are used in them. Unfortunately I don't know which you need, but I had similar issues with a weather station, swapped out the adapter for one with a different chipset and it now works fine.

How did the port on the vinyl cutter get damaged? Are you certain that the serial port on the vynil cutter is actually working?

can't you buy a new port / card / board for your cutter?

Can't be that expensive for such a cheap cutter. Or are parts unavailable?

I agree with P924.

It could be that the usb/serial ports use the same controller card and that could be faulty.
