Amazon aims to launch front-lit Kindle in July: source

Amazon.com Inc will launch new versions of its Kindle e-reader and tablet, including a monochrome e-reader with front lighting, a source who has seen the prototype told Reuters.

What exactly is the logic behind this front lighting? The existing one is pretty much perfect imo & I don't see any type of lighting making it even easier on the eyes.

Should still beat all other electronic devices you've got by a large margin. But 2 month battery life won't happen anymore.

Its very low energy LED lights so shouldnt be much of a compromise.

Still prefer my Nook Touch which, although no 3G, runs FULL ANDROID

So I get to use Kindle for Android on my Nook touch AND I get an android e-ink reader with NICE browser (opera, dolphin), swype keyboard, etc
