I have Vodacom‘s home internet LTE. It works very well with great speeds. I’ve noticed though since 8 October on the detailed usage on the Vodacom app it shows data being used for Amazon cloud. It’s quite an excessive amount each and everyday now and I have no idea what it’s from. There was no such data description on my detailed usage report before 8 October. I use iOS iCloud and have Google’s drive app which only has 600mb in it and everything is deactivated in that drive. Some days the Amazon cloud uses more data than the iCloud which I use for documents, photos and apps.

Does anyone know what could be using data that‘s classifield as Amazon cloud? I only pay for one cloud service which is iCloud.

Many apps, websites and services make use of Amazon.. you may have recently started using one of these hosted on Amazon, that's accounting for this usage.. or something you have been using for a while may also have moved over to Amazon..

Amazon cloud can basically be anything. Playing games online on Amazon servers. Downloading game updates or viewing website with amazon cached content.

I don't think you should worry about what Vodacom called it in the app that is basically just traffic to Amazons network.

I’ve been experiencing the very same problem. In the past theee months I have been running out of data. Just in the past few days I’ve used 23 gigs of data due to Amazon cloud which I have no idea of what it can be!!!!!!!

Netflix,Disney+, Amazon Prime and other streaming services use AWS (Amazon).
If you're streaming from any of the services that use AWS, that might be the cause and would easily consume a lot of data.

I have the same problem. What is Amazon using 9GB of data for?
His Amazon usage is likely different to your Amazon usage..

Here is a scenario:

You frequently visit a video sharing website called: www.somevids.com

Now, this website uses Amazon to store the videos that people upload for sharing and this website, when you click to view a website, fetches that video from this link: www.amazon.com (this is just an example for illustration)

To Vodacom, this would look like a request made to Amazon cloud and they would bundle it as such in their data usage reports, however, you have only ever visited www.somevids.com..

Many many many websites use the plethora of services that Amazon provides for one reason or another and you would never know about it, because it happens behind the scenes..

If you want to get to the bottom of high data usage, use an application like Glassware which can you tell specifically which of your applications are using a lot of data..

I have the same problem since a few months ago 14GB of data vanished in in 2.5 weeks and Vodacom has no answers, Something nefarious, fraudulent is going on- I am not streaming anything, or using any of the apps suggested on this forum. Something needs to be done about it !

WHAT is going on with everyone's data vanishing on Amazon Cloud! It appears none of us are using streaming services and further more none of us have changed our habits or phone settings. There is something fraudulent going on and it needs to be investigated! I lost 14gb of data in 2.5 weeks and I was on my WIFI for 80 % of that time! WHO and WHY is out data being stolen!

There is NOTHING fraudulent going on.. This has been explained time and time again in this thread..

Amazon is a cloud provider who offers services used by thousands of other companies to build their applications or services that those companies offer..

Let's take some examples like tiktok or Instagram( I don't know if they use Amazon, just using them as examples) and there are thousands more, including mobile games.. These companies may be using Amazon for their applications.. So if you use these applications you would be commenting to Amazon cloud actually and your data usage would therefore be accounted by Vodacom as being for Amazon cloud..

If anything, this is just lazy accounting on the part of Vodacom, nothing fraudulent..

Also, the service itself doesn't necessarily have to use Amazon for anything other than Edge connectivity and it would show up as "Amazon Cloud" on a bill possibly.

This, as is usually expected, piss poor from Vodacom. They've probably implemented a change in how they report on traffic usage and are using some dataset that allocates a chunk of IPs to Amazon Cloud rather than the services that are actually using those IPs.

I Completely disagree with you- It is fraudulent! As you can see from the other complaints and / or queries - this is a NEW thing. I can 100% state that my browsing habits have not changed in the last year , I have not added any new Apps, I have IG but not Tick tok, And yet 14gb between 1 Oct and 17th Oct vanished! If Vodacom has changed something that is costing everyone a MUCH LARGER amount of money, they need to be transparent about it! I was using MAX 4G's a mnth - and in 2 weeks 14GB! And, I am only mentioning the most recent because it has been going on for months, I actually went into the store to try sort it out, but that was a waste of my time, The store manager told me he has opened a case, Despite follow up calls, nothing has been sorted out!

If VODACOM is costing people and extra 10GB a mnth - without being transparent about AMAZON cloud that is shady business! ( Seriously I would need to be streaming movies on my phone)

If anything it’s crappy reporting on Vodacom’s part, but they can’t magically fabricate data.

Your devices are using it, no two questions about it, no fraud no nothing.

Something you are using is eating the data…or someone.

Its not fraudulent just because you don't understand it.

Something is wrong, this thing is new. It also happened to me. I am wondering if the complainants in this thread are IPhone users, if that’s the case there must be something to do with apple

Nope. Nothing to do with Apple either.

What phone are you using?
Most of them these days have means to track usage on the device.
If the usage reported by your device = usage reported by Vodacom, there is nothing frudulent happening.

The only thing wrong here is the amount of people who are incapable of reading with any sense of comprehension...
