Amazon announces South African launch

Amazon has announced that it will launch Amazon.co.za in 2024, allowing South African-based sellers to reach customers nationwide.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amazon said over 60% of sales in its store are from independent sellers.

Most of their value comes from Tencent stock that they own, something like 90%. Takelot won't affect the company value

Anyone know how much stock they will be keeping in store? Or are they going to be a drop shipper store? Where you place your order and then wait for it to come from overseas?

They've acquired quite a significant warehouse footprint from what I know, so they will have a decent stock levels, but don't expect us to get much "international" product from Amazon initially.

Why Takealot is not going anywhere?

Ive heard a few stories where 3rd party suppliers at Takealot have had enough of TA with their corporate bullying. I suspect many of them are going to jump ship when Amazon lands on our shores

No, I think they will be different as they'll be able to bring in more international stock and store it in the fulfilment centres.

BobShop / Bidorbuy should be worried.
