I ordered 24 - Season 1 online at Amazon UK. The arrival date shows from 10 days to 1 month. Anybody know how long it usually takes?

Well i ordered some books on the 29th of March and when they shipped [with tracking] i got this estimate:

Your order #xxxxxx (received March 29, 2010)
Amazon.co.uk items (Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L.):

..

Shipping and handling: ÂŁ8.40

Shipped via Deutsche Post DHL (estimated arrival date: April 14, 2010).

Right,

I just ordered Band of Brothers and and the Bourne Trilogy Blu-rays from Amazon UK

Order placed - 04 March, shipped via Deutch Post DHL (no tracking)
Est date of delivery - 17 March

Got the delivery slip in my mailbox on Thursday (might have been there since Tuesday, so say 30 March. Picked up today, customs form says cleared 24 March.

Answer your question?

next time try using Take2's amazon UK/USA orders - usually arrives in 2 weeks or so.

Take2 is also a bit more expensive, but when you figure in customs the difference is usually not that big.

Well it is simple (for books anyway) :

"Complete Guide To Middle Earth "

Take2 : R379
Amazon.co.uk : ÂŁ17.94 (R200)

" The Atlas of Middle Earth"

Take 2 : R207
Amazon.co.uk : ÂŁ10.46 (R110)

...and i can go on...and on...notice the pattern?

Now amazon shipping = ÂŁ20 for a heap of books (not just the 2 above) = R220 total. I recover that from merely 1 book saving. And it's not like it's taking much longer than 2 weeks either..

So i suppose maybe on electronics/DVDs it's a different story, but on books Take2 is almost double...

EDIT: I must add though, i would most likely not buy 24 Season 1 from Amazon....i mean it's pretty cheap -locally- anyway.

Amazon UK will not ship electronics outside of the European Union/UK.

Amazon is however expensive for DVDs at least. For books it's also expensive. Always do a froogle.com search first, ebay.com, Amazon marketplaces and so on.

If something is stolen en route, Amazon usually reships using DHL or UPS, whichever the current favourite is.

True but also look at the various posts concerning people requiring clearing agents now that SARS is clamping down on importers (if you order more than 3 times a year you become an importer). Take2 makes it their problem, not yours.

Just ordered some goodies from them last night as its cheaper and more convenient than going direct.

I just ordered a set of DVD's yesterday and it says they will be here on the 15th ... so thats 9 days :)
I'm very happy with Amazon ... being able to buy a DVD set that is R600 cheaper than if I bought it here!

3 weeks on average from shipping date... during postal strike in SA (late last year )it took 5 weeks though.

Nothing! All I payed was R120!
Have you collected it from the PO yet? I last paid round about R60 on a R300 order (can't find the slip from the PO at the mo). The ripoff on that is their "handling fee".

OP: I usually always get my stuff from amazon.co.uk within a week.

From what I gather here, it's approximately a minimum of 5 working days and a minimum average of 10 working days. Not too bad I guess :)
