Amazon vs "Local"

Just a quick question, are we talking about amazon.com or amazon.co.uk ?

Well so i guess no need to worry. Will consider them for my next purchases. Is there much of a difference between .co.uk and .com as far as service is concerned?

I would imagine most comments here are from amazon.com, mine was. The UK store pricing worked out to be way more expensive, can't remember if that was due to exchange rates or delivery costs.

The first and last time I ordered from the UK store they shipped using the post office. Disaster.

Remember for Amazon UK you do not pay tax, so they deduct 20% when you check out.

Usually the US store works out cheaper, but during some of the December specials I found some items around R500 cheaper on the UK site.

Always check both.

so the price i see on amazon, that includes all the fees wont get any unexpected stuff i need to pay?

On shipping - I got my Roku after about 5 days. And that was because of local red tape. It reached our shores from the US within a day.

@ OP - I'm sure Amazon gets insane discounts for bulk orders, so that could be why they're so much cheaper than local places. Scale and volume.

just looked

at a 33pound psu (just for testing)

when i am at check out and click the vat thing i get this

Items
ÂŁ28.33
Estimated Postage & Packaging
ÂŁ21.06
Total before VAT
ÂŁ49.39
VAT
ÂŁ0.00
Import Fees Deposit
ÂŁ4.36
Estimated Order Total
ÂŁ53.7

so in the end i just pay the 53.7pounds and nothing els?

You probably never get it :P They mostly use snail mail which goes via the post office.

Think the post office is on the brink of closing down last time I checked.

Sure I can understand Amazon getting better discounts than local places but how can those discounts + customs duties + shipping still work out cheaper than local prices? Something ain't right.

South Africans aren't known for being smart shoppers. Just look at how most people bend over for crappy ISPs.
