Amber teething necklace

My nephew uses one; happy boy.
My daughter doesn't; happy girl.

We were personally concerned about having something around her neck. But we are more paranoid.

Baltic amber teething necklace is made for wearing (not chewing) when a baby is teething.

Goodluck with that.

Is there no ointment that you can rub on that has the same effect?

Goodluck with that.

I don't think it's that they may not (or should not) chew the necklace - they are pointing out that the aim is not to be a wearable chewing ring.
Simply wearing the necklace is all that is needed.

is there any kind of proof to show that this is actually effective against child teething pains?

Its like a power balance bracelet only for babies :D

Seriously though, I am skeptical.

Ha Ha - I would have to agree - also, wouldn't a bracelet or ankle chain be better - I wouldn't want my baby to choke.

Agreed, Amber has a pine aroma when heated

EDIT

Baltic amber is thought to have healing properties due to its high succinic acid content. Of all types of amber, Baltic amber contains the most succinic acid, which makes it the most valued. Another reason amber is thought to have healing properties is due to the fact that some samples contain the essence of life (DNA material), dating back millions of years. It is believed that amber facilitates and transmits healing energy and psychic activity. Here are some aspects of amber's metaphysical properties:

Magnet-like qualities, electric.
Attracts spiritual forces.
Facilitates family bonding.
Brings soul mate.
Helps receive.
Brings success/good fortune.
Promotes humor and adaptability.
Helps with judicial matters.
Heightens instincts.
Enhances artistic qualities.
Helps overcome obstacles.
Relieves grief and melancholy.
Brings greater awareness of inner self.
Provides strength and conveys harmony.

I'd rather buy a power band

And crystals. The crystals could be aligning the baby's teething chakras. They sometimes come out a little wonky...

The Necklace would also need to be made from Cherokee hair... very good for frequencies and chakra's...

Hi Blunomore ... you at the teething stage already? Time goes fast!

If baby is irritable with teething, then the best advice is to buy some Stopayne, dip your finger into the Stopayne and massage baby's gum with your finger. The Stopayne acts as a local anesthetic and relieves the pain. It does bring relief. Don't give baby the Stopayne, use it to massage the gums only.

I personally can't comment on these chains, but I doubt that I would use it.

Otherwise how's it going thus far? Is the boot full where ever you go?

Teething can start quite early.

I can't really see how these necklaces could actually work, although I know some parents will swear they made a difference.

You might have to try several things to find what works. For us paediatric Panado, one of the gels you rub on the gums and a few plastic chew things were used in combination.

You'll even find experts that will insist teething is no big deal, not painful at all and no treatment of any kind is required. I know several children that would scream otherwise and parents who haven't slept for a couple of weeks who'd consider throttling these experts (while telling them that being throttled is no big deal).

Sorry but kids are simply too young to be conned by the placebo affect in this case. Parents on the other hand, well that's a whole other story...

I'll second that. You also get the liquid Panado that works. The necklace is definitely New Age woo-woo.

Lol! :D

the placebo effect has been observed in animals and babies. although clearly not at the same cognitive level as in adult humans.

The effect has been observed in animals and babies, although in practice this does require conditioning first (which is analogous to just telling someone a treatment will work when you can't communicate more directly).[3][4] This is contrary to claims by homeopaths who claim that their remedies work in babies and animals and can't be due to the placebo effect.

Depending on the age of the infant, and the vegan status of the parents.

- a small piece of biltong to chew on is a good idea
- (be sure to provide some nice rooibos/water in bottle or cup with that extra saltiness)
- tail of non-toxic plastic dinosaur or other chewy toy (can be chewed but to strong to bite a piece off)
(make sure it is a toxic free one piece toy)

My son chewed on a nicely serrated rubbery plastic crocodile tail through many teethings and later on pieces of biltong.
