I was gonna get an AMD Athlon dual-core 6000+ but now that I've read stuff about Intel I'm not too sure anymore. So I wanted to know:

1) What Intel CPU is equivalent to the AMD 6000+?
2) What Intel processor costs the same as the AMD 6000+?

I wanna get the best bang for my buck and I hear Intel is a better choice right now.

1) Core 2 duo E6600
2) dunno, if you look at http://www.pcint.co.za/components.php the e7300 is the cheapest core 2 there but is still more than the AMD 6000+

Not too sure about the 1st answer there but I've always taken it that way but wouldn't say its official, anyone is welcome to correct me here :)

I usually check reviews on TomsHardware or SharkyExtreme. If I remember correctly, they were all saying Intel. Even the Dual Core Intel over the Quad Core AMD.

Take the E5200, i got mine for R999
2.5Ghz and a great overclocker, will thump a 6000+

We aren't even sure if this guy is gonna overclock. If he isn't there's no reason to choose intel over amd.

Think only when overclocking, else AMD wins hands down...they are significantly cheaper..I think :D

You think?

AMD is not cheaper, the mobo's yes but not the cpu's.

Buy what ever you like, i say support AMD so intel's prices stay low :p

Yeah I won't be overclocking at all. :) Maybe that'll change something?

Well CPU slightly and M/aboard definitely = AMD cheaper :D

I still support intel though :D My pentium II 400mzh still works like a charm.

My thunderboard and thoroughbred have died though...

Since you're not gonna overclock just get the 6000+

IMO I think wait for the phenom 2 if an AMD fan. It's due to realease soon. If u in a hurry then just like the guys said E6600 more bang for buck!

Which AMD mobos are cheaper than Intel? The cheapest AMD board I see is the Asus M2N68-VM at around R750. Does have quite a few features, but will the OP use them?

Compare that to a Foxconn G31 at R550 (albeit somewhat limited compared to the AMD, but a great solid board), and you have yourself an extra R200 - R250 to spend on an Intel CPU.

Okay I've been doing some thinking and thought I might as well get a half decent CPU if I'm gonna get the HD4850. I've read that the Intel E8400 and Intel Q6600 are the best bang for buck CPUs out now and you can overclock them really easily.

I read that the E8400 is better for gaming since most games use 2 cores at the moment and 4 cores would be a waste, but I wanted to know what you guys think. Should I get the E8400 or Q6600 for gaming or are there even better processors that I can get at their price?

Hope you can help, cheers!
