Amd 965 price drop :)

It r very orsum if u r running benches as daily standard application. In normal use, the one you can afford or want is the better one. :D

Phenoms are not going after i5 they are still going after intel's old tech sadly. i5 is the best bang for buck setup at the moment without a doubt.

Best bang for buck??? I would say a amd phenom 2 system is the best bang for buck at the moment. With I5 the mb's are stil quite expensive and you are forced to go DDR3.
And if you have a old am2/am2+ motherboard already you don't even need a new one just a bios update.Of course it also depends on what you going to use your system for, for gaming you really don't need a I5/I7.In fact I think for someone who only uses his pc for gaming a I5/I7 system is a bit of a waste of money.
Now if you are working with a lot of multi-threading applications then that's a different story..

And yes I am a amd fan!!! but funny enough not a ati one...

DDR3 is dirt cheap now unless you buy crazy idiotic memory.

7P55D ASUS Intel P55, LGA1156, 4xDual DDR3 2133(O.C), 2xPCI-x16(CrossFire), 2xPCI-x1, 3xPCI, 6xSATAII(Raid 0,1,5,10), 1x eSATA, 1xATA133, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound HD, Max 14xUSB, 2xIEEE1394, ATX (For Core i-5) R 1,355 excl. R 1,544 incl.

That does not seem very expensive, a decent amd mobo will set you back 1k or so.

Core i5-750 Core LGA1156 2.66GHz 8Mb Cache R 1,649 excl. R 1,879 incl.

Same price cpu

2GB DDRIII-1333 (Kingston) R 449 excl. R 511 incl.

Not really that expensive in my opinion, yes i5 may set you back 300-500 bucks thats all.

The 965 amd is am3 so it would be the best idea to use ddr 3 with it. So no amd is no longer the best bang for buck in my opinion.

LOL but it's true :D

For someone buying a pc new amd no longer offer the best bang for buck dude.

I can agree with them offering good bang for buck if you own a mobo that can take the cpu then yes obviously but in terms of buying a whole box new they are no longer worthy of considering in my opinion which is sad and put intel in a good position to push pricing up.

The amd fanboys yes they will buy amd but they would amd even if amd's cpu's performed at 10% of intels :D.

okay. so what CPU would you rather get for R2k?

Then motherboard would need to be decent price as well.. supporting I presume DDR3 yes?

An i5 in the price range will do.

And this is coming from a AMD owner. Got my 955 maybe 2 months ago. Works very well for me, but you can't go wrong with the i5 right now. My AMD gets abused mostly during transcoding and on the benches it was a couple of seconds slower than the new Intels. Which is as long as it takes to turn your head and say "oh, it is done". :D

But as I've said in the past, if you want the AMD get the AMD, if you want the Intel get the Intel. Buy the best thing you can get for your R2K and right now that's the Intel.

If you go lower down the price bracket you will see there are some better spec'd AMD units compared to the Intel units. As the pricing goes up, Intel clearly starts to provide the better option.

Not again. I have 3 amd cpus and one intel. All a dem make me smile. 5850 in the mail, had been saving for a 280 and now no need. Just do da best at the time. Dem Intel/AMD do not care about you so, weigh your rand and da work done an' its all good.
