I'm so Goth, my wrists slit themselves
So my work PC motherboard croaked last night. ;) After the GPU fan failed ;( No point trying to troubleshoot it, it's pretty much dead, switches on and can turn it off and reset, but doesn't post, think the GPU fan failure coupled with the extreme heat that followed might have damaged the PCI express ports.

So to move forward I need a replacement, happened on the AMD A8-7650K coupled with a board clocks in close to 2.2K. Need to research a bit more but seems close a match to the old 2500K that was in there in some respects.

Additional I can get a replacement LGA1155 board, however the price is pretty steep at R1050 for a H61 motherboard, and they have stock.

How is the AMD CPU ? Would I be better off replacing just the motherboard or go with the AMD bundle, considering budget constraints not needing a beefy rig do however need a min of 4 cores to be able render textures, and test out 3d models. So temperature would also be of concern.

Additional I could order a P67 from ebay but I need it fairly quickly, shipping costs import duties and all that makes it really about the same price as the H61 I can get locally.

Which is the better option to go with ?

I love my A8 station, it goes great. Doesn't really help but why not wait 2 weeks if it isn't desperate and pickup a new Ryzen 5/3 when they come out ?

What "work" is it used for?

I'd say those AMD are the perfect fit for office PCs.

3D modeling, some photoshop, with testing in 3D engines, maybe an occasional game or so, obviously I will not be using the APU but I would love to have it as back up, So could always go for a CPU without an APU save a bit more and get some thing else maybe.

Just got a reply back from my contact has some asrock motherboards with no back plate for R500.00.Which definitely seem far more attractive now.Back plate isn't a deal breaker.

I doubt your 2500k is dead, if you can get another MB go with that.

Instead of the a8-7650k consider the pentium G4560, puts you on a new socket also allowing you to upgrade to a i5/7 in future.

Oh & check carbonite!

Also doubt the CPU is dead, will likely go the new MB route at R500.00 small price for school fees if it doesn't work, luckily I can still sell the board afterwards and go new CPU/MB route.

Additional my brother has moved over to a Mac desktop computer and hasn't used his ivy bridge rig in years also a Icore 5 in, buy that from him and sell off the spares, not a fan of ivy runs a bit hot too my liking. It's a better board with onboard wifi and SLI support. Get some cash back for the GPU purchase I was going to do this month pretty much screwed until then.Just waiting back from to hear from my brother, his in JHB too which means courier fees for pick up and delivery.I can't wait till pay day to end this nightmare, at least another 2 weeks of suffering ahead. Sigh FML !

The Core2duo rig I am using now will soon meet a wall, only has 1gig ram........
