Hi,
Okay so i have this fan currently on my old AMD Socket 939 X2 4400+ CPU->
Zalman ZF9225ATH 3 Pin 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler AMD
I have tried it on my new MSI A88X G43 board but it seems to be running at full blast and the temperature (IF IT IS ACCURATE) says it is 35(bios idle) 42 (windows idle) to 60 odd when on load - there is no fan speed control because it is a 3 pin fan and it is connected to a 4 pin header on the board. I have tried bios and software , no change in speed.
After much reading it seems 3 pin fans for older boards with 3 pins headers are appropriate because they can control fan speed.
Newer 4pin headers are not suitable for 3 pin fans.
Anyways when i walk in to bedroom it seems like i am in a server room, it is loud - fan is obviously running at highest RPM or default speed.
I want to buy either one of the following, the prices are good for my pocket, i just want to know if they are good coolers and that they dont make a horrible noise OR even rattle:
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO, with 92mm PWM Fan -rebeltech.co.za
Cooler Master Blizzard T2, with 92mm Fan -rebeltech.co.za
DeepCool GAMMAXX 300, with 120mm PWM Fan -rebeltech.co.za
Raijintek Aidos Black Edition 92mm Pwm Fan Cpu Cooler - wootware.co.za
I am strong for the TX3 EVO as it has good ratings and reviews.
I do not know how to compare fans though, noise level and whatever.
Please help me guys as i want to spend the money and buy the right fan one time.
Im already thinking the motherboard i got is rubbish and i should have got the G45 instead , but i dont know, maybe im just being too emotional and worrying for nothing.
Lastly , surely if i compare the OLD fan i have:
Zalman ZF9225ATH 3 Pin 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler AMD
and compare it to any of the new ones i want to buy , they are obviously worlds apart right?
Anyways now i am told that 3 Pin fan does indeed support speed controlled by what they call voltage ramping:...
SOMEBODY SAYING:
-------------------
""Incorrect.
""Just because the fan is the older 3 pin style doesn't mean that it can't be speed controlled. 3 pin fans use voltage ""ramping instead of the 4 pin PWM method. Both control methods rely on motherboard support, which is usually present.
""MSI is a bit ambiguous in the UEFI setup about speed controlling fans, IIRC the option to control fans doesn't even look ""like it's related to fans but it is there. I've had to deal with it on a half dozen MSI AMD boards so far.""
My Response:
-------------
Okay cool thats good to know, because i know my AMD Gigabyte Socket 939 controlled the fan speed in the bios or in windows, accordingly.
Using the fan on my MSI A88X G43 board i dont know what the hell but the fan speed stays at ~2800, i really dont understand it.
Ill be honest i dont know the new bios well but there is a section that says fan control but i tried to move the sliders and they do bugger all.
If i can save the money then what the hell. How do i compare and see if say EVO TX will in fact be better than the Zalman ZF9225ATH.
Sites for comparing fans? - i cant find any
So now i still dont know what to get . I just want a quiet fan and easy to install.
No requiring of bracket changing and sutff because i dont think i know how to do that stuff.
