AMD cuts prices again!

what makes you no2 is firstly sales then performance

even when amd had a better cpu intel where still out selling them, so amd was still no 2

Well thats only when comparing to sales but like everything, there is more than one way to compare things. My statement was regarding ranking by quality IMO ( hense why i said everyone has their different perceptions ).

Intel is prolly outselling them because they have better deals ( or better marketing ) with PC/Notebook providers. To explain it better look at this: http://www.incredible.co.za/services/catalog/features.asp?rcat=Notebooks_Main_Notebooks&page=3

Out of the 16 notebooks they sell, intel wins 12:4. Now imagine globally if this example is infact the global trend.

All in all i dont think its best to compare by sales as you are comparing the two companies marketing skills and not their ability to provide a better cpu

amd has always been pwned by intel purely because it failed to into the laptop market in a big way

it failed to get into the business in a good way

the only reason AMD has done so well is because of gamers and ppl who want to sell amd and not intel

amd's marketing has never been good, when they had a better cpu they should have had better pricing than intel considering they had very little market share, they failed to do that and thats why they are where they are today

AMD = Another Motherboard Dead.

I have two AMD machines that are now totally useless.

What happened to them? Which makes? If you buy an Intel ASUS motherboard and then a no name brand AMD, then of course the Intel will last longer. If you buy an ASUS Intel motherboard and an ASUS AMD motherboard then they are likely to last as long as each other (skipping the VIA chipset that is).

It is such a pointless debate. You buy the processer that will do the job for what you are doing up to the level you can afford, whether it be AMD or Intel. What does it matter who holds the no1 position in the market of 2 to end users? Only the shareholders and other stakeholder worry about that, but not users. It is like checking the stock market before going to P'nP.

yea your right but if intel keeps pwning AMD they not going to last much longer and we will have one cpu provider not good

ati is going to be the death of AMD

I think that might be the idea behind the price cuts. As most people can't really afford the highend stuff it will make sense to go for AMD for price vs performance which will keep them going. Only thing is what are they doing to catch up with performance for the highend market.

yea but amd's so cheap now i cannot see how they making a profit

if they really wanted to do something clever they would do away with all their cpu's and sell the 6000+ for like 80 90 dolla's

imagine how many ppl would that cpu, because its pretty good

surely it cannot cost more to produce the 6000+ than lets say the 4200+

the 6000+ is competing with the e6600 and its about the same but once you overclock the 6600 is pwns the amd big time

By reducing the cost of their cpu's company's like Dell, HP etc will rather sell AMD/ATI systems. They can then provide the consumers with better deals. Price vs. performance

Sybaritic seem to be the first online store to have reduced their prices. They have the 6000+ for R17xx

In the next few weeks we might see the 6000+ get in the R15xx range :p

The way it works is this. AMD will make a CPU and test it at 6000+, if it fails, they will drop it down and test it at the next speed and so on. So it's not likely that they will be able to sell only 6000+ CPUs. As they get better with the manufacturing, they are able to make more and more of the top level CPU's.

At least that is the way it used to work. May have changed lately.

check it out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773

AMD 6000+ going for $170!!! If you take the current exchange rate its close on R1200!!! I certainly wouldnt mind this CPU ;p Very cheap for the performance.

Does anyone know if AMD will be reducing the AMD 6000+ from 90nm to 65nm?

AMD will not begin creating 65nm high-end processors until the release of its Athlon 64 X2 dual and quad core chips based on the K10 architecture. The release of K10, however, is not expected to take place until halfway through 2007. This means that AMD's current 90nm Athlon 64 X2 processors will have to counter Intel's Core 2 Duo chips, all of which use a 65nm die, for another six months.

Took that off hwupgrade.com :p

AMD is going to have a new lineup and since they have very few fabs they need to get rid of most of their stock of the mid-high end market. If they don't they'll sit with K8 CPUs that nobody will want when the K10 debuts later this year.

Core2 is superior to K8 overclocked or not, it has a better IPC and that's it...
Core2 is 9th gen Intel CPU while X2 is 8th Gen AMD.

Last: Phenom X4 is fast, very fast :)
