AMD drops desktop processor prices by 47%

its already happened

most of the 939 pin cpu are half price

i remember rectron was 1495 for 3200+
sahara was 729

rectron's pricing is shocking at the moment

These new prices will only affect us on the next supplier shipments ... some suppliers will ship sooner than others (depending on their current stock levels) ... most will sell off their current stock before shipping again! So don't expect it immediately ... wait a month or two ... or even three ... this is SA after all ... deepest darkest africa! Or if you can't wait ... buy oversees and ship it here ... I'm sure it will probably be much cheaper at this point than current prices!

Last price cut, Frontosa had the new prices about 2 weeks later. Pretty sure they will do it again.

PS: According to Tom's Hardware ... (an article they wrote a week ago or so) ... they claimed that AMD would have to drop their prices by 51% instead of the 47% in order to stay in the Price/Performance league of Intel in anticipation for the Core Duo 2 ... basically ... this 47% price drop is unlikely to do them any good! I think Intel is fighting hard! They haven't been in the game this long to give the lead to AMD lying down!! Also, Intel will have a significant Quad Core lead when they launch their Quad Core offerings at least 3 months before AMD! Personally, I think the ATI aquisiton is gonna cost them dearly, hurting their bottom line earnings! And the benefits of the aquisition are unlikely to benefit the industry for another 2 years!

Those prices are for ppl buying +1000 processors!!!!! whos ganna buy 1000 ???

HERE is what suggested retail prices should be, give it a week or 2 at least before you see it in SA.

Um, thats the exact same link and prices as the original post.

But yes, obviously suppliers buy in 1000's.. then we add some profit for them, and then some shipping around the US and to SA. And then your local PC shop profit...

Only the prices where they dont state PIB (price in box, i guess) are in quanties of 1000

Just got one of the main LOCAL AMD importer's new pricing, hot off the press...looking good. 4200+ is 47% cheaper, like they said. Thats more than a R1000 drop.
