Hi,

I was going to get an Intel mobo when I build my new PC, but then someone told me AMD is better for gaming.

Is this true and if so what would be a good motherboard & processor for a gaming PC and what prices am I looking at?

Maybe in the past AMD was a better alternative, but not currently. Intel Core 2 Duo kicks their butt. So just stick with Intel.

It's hard to say dude. Here are Intel and AMD fanboys here, so you'll get recommendations for both. At the end of the day, either of them will make a good pc for gaming. Your GPU will be the deciding factor. If you're going for AMD though, go for a Phenom chip with B3 stepping and a good Asus board. G/byte ain't bad either. Price wise, it'll vary. What do you wanna spend at the end of the day?
And, welcome to the forums!

Intel is on top at the moment, any semi reputable hardware reviewer would show the same thing (by reputable I mean Anandtech/Tomshardware/etc.)

Intel is far ahead of AMD at the moment.

It's not so much about me being a fanboi than this being an actual fact. I used to prefer AMD a while ago when they were still in the lead.

C2D is the way to go at the moment.

I concur. At the moment you can't really justify choosing AMD over Intel...

If you put two "identical" Intel and AMD systems next to one another, the Intel pc will sort of hop along the table. The AMD will just sit there and wonder, "what the hell?" :D

Intel multi-core processors are currently light years ahead of AMD.

Agreed, it doesn't make sense to buy AMD right now...

intel is miles ahead of amd in terms of performance and their pricing is pretty much on par with amd

FACT!!! intel is by far the better cpu choice and with its agressive pricing it does not make sense to purchase amd as they are way behind in performance and cost pretty much the same

in saying this though, if you like amd buy amd but if you want bang for buck and performance buy intel

Even a little E2160 kicks some of the AMD X2's :)
Although it all comes down to your choice, I say Intel!
