AMD motherboards!!!!!!!!!

The Q8200 is the same price as the 720 BE and beats it considerably at stock - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html. The Q8xxx/also OC really well...

Intel G31 motherboards are also nice little OCers. Unfortunately AMD can't come close to the price/performance of a Q8200/G31 combo.

As for AMD mobos, well at least their mod-range boards are priced well. You could get the popular Asus M4A78 for a little under R1000.

How well do they OC exactly? That's very interesting. If you're a gamer though, the 720BE has to be the best bang for buck chip out at the moment.

You're comparing 4 cores to 3 there. :) Q8200 against X4 940 might be more like it.

Intel just seem to have much larger range of CPUs available and always advancing faster then AMD, hence pricing getting as good as AMD if not better.

Still, I'll support AMD. Just wish they'd use our money to make some advances in the old CPU war rather than funding video card development. :D

3GHz easily with stock cooler.

Why best bang for buck chip? See below.

I'm comparing the performance one gets from the same amount of money. ;) In response to "AMD are better value than Intel...most of the time".

If you're lucky enough, you may even be able to unlock the 720BE's 4th core. They also overclock with less effort due to the unlocked multiplier... The AM3 platform is a lot more upgradeable than the 775. Then again, we are shopping from two different stores! Lol...

Well intel are without kickin amd's ass in terms of cpu pricing, i mean that q8200 is so damn cheap, amd should have brought out the 965 and dropped the 955 to q8200 pricing or there abouts i reckon.

Anyways got my 9800gx2 hooked up and working so all systems go hopefully, game tests need to be done cause i am going from a q9550 to a dual core amd 2.9ghz so not sure my card will be used to it's full use but yea will upgrade later when i got more cash. Guess that my q9550 does not get used mostly for games anyhow as not many games use more than 1 core.

Pity i am losing my work from home stuff grrrr, put so much money into this pc but i need it more for work than play.

Tell me i bought an am3 cpu but an am2 mobo am losing much performance on the dual core?

AM3 socketed Phenom IIs add DDR3 memory support. The rest is the same as far as I know.

Sweet then no need to worry must just go get an ide dvd writer and i think i am sorted.

Well i need to hit some games not sure how this possible kuk mobo will handle games but it should go fine i hope hehe. Damn why did i go cheap skate on the mobo but blow 1.9k on a samsung p2350 :D

Let us know what the actual motherboard model is.

I'm after an IPS and not TN panel. :) Unfortunately the market has made TN the most common.

You should look up the Lenovo L220x. R4.5K - R6.5K for a 22"!!! Now that's silly money for a 22". 2 different models out there, both with the same model designation. What a nightmare to figure out thanks to some fire at the panel factory causing Lenovo to switch supplier on the panel or something.

Woah... that must have sucked! Lenovo employees waking up to the smell of lightly crisped 22" panels! Lol... It's crazy how much IPS cost though and a pity...:(

:D The worst is that no-one could give me an answer on the R2K price difference for apparently the same thing.

Agree, it's a pity they're not more popular. But that's how the market calls it. Whatchagonnado :)

Sadly they will never be popular, what makes a 6.5k monitor better than a 2k monitor?

Surely the picture cannot be that much better that you want to spend 6.5k on a monitor?

Colour reproduction is better. Better viewing angles too.

Indeed they are.
Unfortunately, all the settle-for-anything gaming community out there has pushed manufacturers to focus on the much cheaper TN panels.
People focusing on quick response times, etc, etc, when they're really not needed.
TNs can just about do the same colour production of the higher priced panels, but the viewing angles, black depth, etc, etc, won't match up.
