Hey guys i am looking into buying a new computer, so i decided on going with amd.For the CPU i was thinking of the AMD FX 6300,the MOBO is the ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0, 8Gb of adata RAM, Thermaltake 530 Watt PSU and a R9 270X GPU.I am not very familiar with amd so i would like to know if this is a good build?

I had to replace my mobo recently as was keen on the ASRock 970 Pro3. But after reading some reviews I changed my mind.

I personally will look at ASUS. (but then again I had problems with them too, as well as MSI).

Good choice in GPU :)

Just worried about the PSU, that brand makes rubbish.

The 530w on Rebeltech looks ok, and semi modular. 5 year warranty.
The problem is there's a competing Seasonic one for the same price/wattage. Just don't know if it's modular or not.

Guess it comes down to how important the cabling is. Either way it's not the worst choice, unfortunately the AMD cpu removes the 450w options a bit.

Bull****.

You really no nothing about PCs.

Yay!!! Finally someone for AMD. Looks quite a good build. I don't know about the quality of Thermaltake. I am using a Raidmax 530W which is also modular.

It feels like there was more motherboard choices back with AM2. Is it the South African distributors or manufacturers.

My vote goes towards a Asus motherboard. I liked the Biostar and XFX motherboard ranges back then, but can't seem to find in Cape Town.

I dunno but AM3 is going out. There's currently no plan to take it further and AMD will probably have a unified socket for their Zen architecture.

Don't do it! I was keen on fx-6300 build a month ago but changed my mind. If you go fx-6300 or whatever AMD series you have to get a decent R1,4k MB, you gonna need aftermarket cooling to OC that fx-6300 so it can 'approach' Intel performance levels but you'll never quite get there. You are gonna need a beefier PSU.

Have a look at how this worked out http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/677115-New-PC-build-advice-amp-recommendations-welcome!

Nah, you don't need expensive MBs when it comes to AMD. For performance just look at the GPU.

With lots of games supporting Mantle and more in the future, CPU requirments for gaming won't be an issue. Even if DX12 comes into play (if).
However, there is a few games, like Whitcher 3, that apparently wants a beefier CPU than an 6300. Even my 8320 is apparently a little light in the pants for it.

I hope Mantle uptake and the DX12 coming, is happening soon. Will save me from buying a new CPU.

If you can find a new MB that retails at sub R1000, in South Africa, that won't melt something when you attempt even the most minor overclock (turbo) let us know.

At current exchange rates perhaps not sub R1000 but AMD used to have a lot in that range. Melting something? Like the Intel board that would melt the socket when you attempted an overclock?
