AMD price drop

ok so amd can get to 3ghz intel's cpu can be clocked far beyond that how come shock?

i dont see the barcelona making much of an impact because its for the upper end of the market not for everyday use by normal ppl only enthusiasts (spelling)

i suspect barcelona is going to fail badly

also doesnt 65nm run cooler? which would also help with overclocking

I hope Barcelona does well otherwise we're back to square one where Intel will determine cpu prices again.

Supersunbird, i was wondering if you have got a website that i could get a look at those prices of urs? AMD fan all the way!!

Wanna upgrade, and this seems to be a good time wat you say?

Thanks

I tried to have a pricelist, but all my suppliers (theres 6) have different pricelist layouts and prices in different excel spreadsheets and I just cant combine them or transfer them over in a automatic fashion and changing them manually will keep me busy 24/7. :(

Supersunbird, do u run a business or do u just recieve the pricelists? Cos i see u live in my area, and im looking to upgrade, so mayb i can get a quote?

I run a business, PM me a budget and intended use (games, encoding) and any special requirements and I put a quote together...

No Barcelona is just like Core2 architecture, it'll go from Semprons right to the top of the Opteron range.

The K10 core is faster than Core2 core by quiet some margin. Nothing is going to happen to AMD. Why is everyone saying AMD is dead because Intel has for the first time a leading CPU over the last 6 years I mean come on.

SO amd will cpu's that will be better than core 2 by end of april

so amd will be back on top

sweet better get another 3k together

cant wait for my new AMD cpu that doesnt cost 6k

barcelona is the expensive one what are the other names shock g

shock i can only find amd barcelona, where are the other cpu's?

barcelona is the quad core fitting 4 cores on a single die :) intel can only put 2 multi cores i never saw anything about dual core cpu's or new cheap amd cpu's that kill the core 2's

where you getting your info from? source plz

For the servers segment, AMD will unveil two new processors based on the architecture codenamed "Barcelona" and "Budapest" or more than 1-way and 1-way servers.[11] Desktops will see an overhaul of the entire processor lineup. Single-core Lima built in 65 nm for the single-core Athlon 64 will arrive in Q1 2007 while Sparta, the Sempron 65 nm update, will come in Q2 2007. For the second half of 2007, HyperTransport 3.0 and Socket AM2+ will be unveiled, which are designed for the specific implementation of the aforementioned consumer quad core desktop chip series, with naming convention changes from city-names (up to mid 2007) to stars/constellations (after mid 2007), such as Agena; in addition, the 4x4 platform and its immediate successor will support the high end enthusiast DP versions of the chip, such as Agena FX.[12] As with the Barcelona server chips, the new desktop quad core series will feature a shared L3 cache, 128-bit Floating point (FP) units and an enhanced microarchitecture. Agena, the native quad-core processor for the desktop, will become the Athlon 64 X4 and a special version called Agena FX will update the Athlon FX line for AMD Quad FX platform. Kuma, a dual-core variant will follow on in Q3 while Rana, the dual-core version with no shared L3 cache is expected at the end of the year

It's a good idea to keep supporting AMD. They still offer good value for money across the board. I still remember the days when Intel dictated the prices across the board. I promise you, you don't want to go back there. Just because Intel have the best at the top end should not prevent someone who wants a value machine from buying an AMD. Get what is best for you now, not what is the best in a different price bracket.

Intel is ahead at the moment because they could afford to fund 2 R&D teams. AMD could only afford 1 and also managed to make some big blunders in that team. Barcelona should bring them at least back to an even keel at the top end of the market but that is only due in 3 months time.

Well the fact that they are planning to lay of workers is certainly a bit alarming. I'm not saying that they are going under but IT IS worrying. The have been losing money for 2 quarters now, the one where they purchased ATI and then Q1 2007 when the C2D made their sales go down.

As of now they are only losing money and not making any which is worrying so unless the K10 is magic enough to kick the C2D and the core released after(can't really remember what Intel is calling the new 45nm core) that they are up for a hard time. The fact that they are planning to lay of workers seems to indicate that the K10 might not be a magic bullet after all.

Time will tell.
