AMD unveils high-end Threadripper desktop processor

Now the question is, when can I buy it. I held off on Ryzen until this announcement, because the rumors of this beast surfaced as soon as Ryzen 7 came round to purchase.

We'll know in 2 weeks when they release info at Computex. I personally wouldn't mind having a Threadripper rig for my work machine, going to be pricey though!

Still a bit disappointed about Vega, thought it was a strong gaming GPU.

Vega is an architecture that will span many different GPUs, there will be a strong gaming GPU but we just don't know when exactly.

Yup, it's all about price. I'm watching for the lines to blur between high end desktops and entry servers

I doubt that it will be a Volta contender. NVidia is pulling out next-gen technology.

No, Nvidia will likely lead the GPU market for some time to come but that doesn't mean AMD won't have strong products with Vega.

AMD, or more specifically RTG, just cannot work on the scale that Nvidia's operating budget allows. In last night's AMD investors presentation Raja Koduri hinted at how small a team they have to work with, it's like a tiny band of rebels against the Imperial forces.

Yes, and in business you need to be ruthless. It is not quite like that NVidia is withholding innovation.

The Intel vs AMD debacle is another story, and it will take Intel at least two to three years to level the pricing strategy, and by that time Intel will have a new niche market to sell $999 CPUs to. I’m not going into the legal battles, AMD has lost and won in those.

The thing is, NVidia is catering to every market segment.

See the punches that AMD is throwing at NVidia,

that is a big statement to make, better live up to expectation.
