Amith Maharaj was appointed to Telkom in 2008 as the Managing Executive of Telkom Mobile. He has since been developing and executing Telkom’s mobile strategy (business and network) which will see R6 billion of capital investment over 5 years.
Mr Maharaj’s current focus is on execution, with emphasis on achieving Telkom Mobile’s strategic targets by managing technologies, products, services, customer care and regulatory impacts. Innovation is a key success factor for any player in a highly competitive mobile market, and he has to ensure that he and his team continually incorporate this factor into all that they do.
Prior to joining Telkom, Mr Maharaj was part of the start-up team that successfully launched Vodacom Business. He was the Executive for Mobile Technical Solutions, another start-up function which was created when Vodacom introduced high speed data services to the market. Mr Maharaj spent 9 years at Vodacom in a variety of management roles. Prior to joining Vodacom in 1999, he worked at Telkom in KwaZulu-Natal after completing his degree with a Telkom bursary.
Mr Maharaj obtained his Engineering degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 1998 and completed an MBA in 2005. He has also served on the Swiftnet (Fastnet) board as a non-executive director.
