Im considering getting amobia 384 uncapped for my flat this year after having a very bad year with cell-c. Does anyone here come from stellenbosch and have amobia uncapped? Also was wondering if xbox-live would be playable on amobia 384 uncapped. Any help would be appreciated.

Im in JHB so I cant give you much info regarding the coverage, there is a coverage map on their site, that might help

I have the 3Mbps uncapped option, I'm lucky to get 384k out of it, not impressed at all, Amobia are apparently working on the issue, and I hope its sorted out soon, if it is I will let you know.
they seem to use Mweb as a break out, and even on a speed test to the Mweb servers I cant get more than about 512k download

Thanx for the comments. @ptcullis Are u based in stellenbosch? Do you use Wish Networks?

No George, we are not based in Stellenbosch. We also do not provide coverage in Stellenbosch. If we did, I would suggest you use us.

Wish Networks, however, are based in the middle of Stellenbosch and appear to have a nice, fast network in Stellenbosch.

good luck with it, i had 3mb for a month, and it was useless most of the time, you can forget xbox, skype etc.

if you need 384kbps like, look for some one who are providing internet + voip on 384k line usually those are good with no cap and no shaping like screamer, dcconnect etc.

I hope for your sake Xbox Live is prioritised above P2P...right now I have a torrent of a tv episode (2 days old) coming down at an almighty 5 KB/s on Amobia's 3mb/s connection. Reeks of awesomeness. AMOBIA - U FORGOT TO TURN THE SHAPING OFF!!! IT'S 3am...ALL THE OFFICE WORKERS HAVE GONE HOME!!!

I know the feeling
8:45 on a sunday
3 Mbps uncapped
13kbps
190 MB from from www.apple.com will take me 3 hours
Awesome speed I'm starting to wish I had not cancelled my unstable 1Mbps ADSL line with telkom, it was actually better than Amobia.

Pinging www.l.google.com [74.125.233.18] with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 74.125.233.18:
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 78, Lost = 22 (22% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Winning. I also have ADSL which has moved from backup to primary line at the moment. I'm waiting for someone to call me back with an explaination. Based on the response, I may or may not be posting in this section again ;-)

Thanks

Hi vamzi77, if you're unhappy with a service always discuss your problems with the service provider - often they are unaware that you're having problems - or perhaps they have a more suitable service that will fulfill your expectations.

Contact Wish Networks.

They have very good service in Stellenbosch.

Hi portcullis, thanks for the recommendation. I hope it's from first-hand experience :)

Don't mess it up.

I don't like the climb up Simonsberg and really don't want to have to stick access points up in and around Stellenbosch :)

It seems my Amobia connection is now up and running as it should be,
I constantly get speed test in the 2.5 Mbps region uploads of about 0.5 to 0.6 Mbps sometimes a bit faster.

Youtube clips actually stream down faster then they play out, not 10 minutes to download a 1 minute clip, ftp downloads average about 0.8Mbps even accessing stuff on the apple store run at about 1 to 1.5 Mbps now sometimes faster its obviously quite a heavily shaped service, but now at least its usable.

Good to hear, LyndonL. I've got good-ish news to report this side also - Amobia say they'll be by tomorrow to upgrade my CPE which will hopefully resolve the loss and throughput issues.

Holding thumbs.

Amobia comes through!

Much better, thanks Amobia.
