Amobia 3Mb Uncapped

I am currently using a business connection with Amobia for the last mile and Frogfoot as the internet provider. Sevice is excellent but expensive R3000 for 30GB. I need very low latency as I trade the US stock exchange.

I am thinking or reducing that link to only 10Gb/month just for my trading workstation and switching the rest of my PCs to the Amobia 3Mb Uncapped. This will bring the cost down and remove the 30Gb capped burden. Main usage would be email, web, videos, skype, download.

Is anybody currently using this service? Any feedback? I heard that they use MWeb as the provider for this service but not sure if they use their own shaping or Mweb?

Thanks,
Phil

OHHH i am happy with their uncapped . i don't think there is much shapping accept for the times 6 pm to 1 am. all other days i am at full speed skype works like a charm even when my speeds are bad. like you i work from home doing remote desktop support to my clients, and yes they are using mweb for uncapped, odd thing is when seacom goes down my speeds became even better for some reason talking about speeds of 600kbps / 700 download.

Price R 799 makes me feel guilty at times as i feel like i am robbing them lol. hope this is not just luck with me, don't want to force you togo for that package and then things don't work out for you .

If i was you i would have switched to uncapped for a few days and if i don't like the latency then switch to a capped option which gets higher priority and has lower latency and still should be cheaper than R3000 R49 per gig if you have reached your cap.

hope this helps.

I wanted to ask them if you can swop like that just to test. Don't they have to come to your house again?

I have also noticed that some ports are blocked on my connection... :(

@onaz- what kind of latency do you get with the uncapped? Can one game on it?

He isn't as big of a gamer as you and me, but from his ping tests, that I have seen, it seems decent enough. IIRC, it was also running in the 20s. :)

Hehe, well I'm seriously considering the 2mbps option. Saves me money and get double the speed I was getting... Assuming my L.O.S to the tower is okay...

I have my 3Mb Uncapped for few days now, the service seems fairly good on the download side, but there is a serious issue with the upload. Impossible to have a proper Skype conversation even with the video switch off on my side as user complains that my voice is cutting. Reception on my side is fine... Have contacted the support hopefully they can do something!

What kind of international EU pings are you guys getting on uncapped? Latency and reliability is the biggest deciding factor for me.

Got this from support "I would like to try running your skype through port 12784 which we have optimised for skype." Have change the port but at the moment not much traffic so Skype is fine with standard port... Will try tonight!
