Afrihost's uncapped 4G and 5G changes

Internet service provider (ISP) Afrihost has made significant changes to its fixed-4G and fixed-5G packages, including adding a new fast uncapped option on Vodacom's network for R799 per month.

The ISP no longer explicitly distinguishes between its 4G and 5G plans. Instead, it refers to all these offerings simply as "Wireless".

Vodacom official supported routers:
-HUWAWEI: 5G CPE Pro 2
-NOKIA: FastMile 5G Gateway 3.2
-ZTE: 5G CPE MC801A; 5G CPE G5T; 5G CPE G5TS
-VODACOM: X25 Max 2 5G Router

Isn't it just MTN that limit the routers?

I don't think there is any restriction on what routers you can use with the telkom packages?

As it stands right now the Vodacom simcards are not location or device locked. They work in any router, just not in a phone; however, as the product matures, these relaxed rules will likely change. That is why we provide the info about required devices from the start to prevent a situation where it worked before but now stops.

That said if you do signup and use it in an unapproved device when the changes eventually come into play you will be forced to use an approved device.

Why do they force users into these routers. There are many other routers capable of working but we are not allowed to use them.
