I collected the router myself from their offices and paid a total of R1499 for the router plus R126-03 for the remainder of this month for the 10Mbps package. I paid both invoices with a TymeBank Debit card - no Debit Order is required.

The support from Cool Ideas has also been excellent. I had a problem with the password to sign into my router to make changes and they responded shortly after 6AM this morning ! I am looking forward to doing some more extensive testing over the next few days ...

Here are a few more early morning speed tests showing more details. At these speeds the tests use a LOT of data as you can see from the annotations on the graphs ! 🙀

Glad to hear it's working well!

Just a note currently packages aren't limited but if you purchased a 10Mbps package this will become a 10Mbps at some point.

That speed after FUP though :crying: your stakeholder offers the same, albeit with different FUP limits, but the speed limit after FUP is at least 4Mbps.

Which is a lot more usable for the reminder of the month.

@PBCool I am making the most of the higher speeds but not expecting them to last forever ! :)

How do I check on my current usage ? I didn't see anything in the CoolZone and it isn't available from *135# ?

@grant_cpt The thresholds on the CI packages are much higher than on similar products in the market so I don't think that you can expect similar speeds after reaching the FUP limit.

100GB vs 200GB
4Mbps vs 1Mbps

Assuming FUP is reached by 15th of the month:
  • 100GB FUP @ 4 Mbps → ~748 GB
  • 200GB FUP @ 1 Mbps → ~362 GB

The radius (usage info) will also be available once the limits are implemented.

We will probably look at a topup option should one hit the FUP

@PBCool , with the use of your own APN, will these packages still route locally? , If I am in Durban will it route there or be similar to Afrihosts offering with either routing via JHB /CPT

Yeah. Vodacom and MTN only hand off in JNB and CTN

And in Vodacoms case they hand everything over in JHB with failover to Cape Town.

Unfortunate, but much prefer the speeds and pricing over here. Since I took a router, will have to stick with Afrihost for sometime but will switch over if CISP keeps their packages like this in a few months time
