Amobia speed upgrades

We have been hearing about Amobia speed upgrades since late last year, so far I don't know anyone who has actually had one, although my understanding is that the trials and rollout started in the Cape and will head up to the JHB / PTA area.

Originally it was mentioned that it might be December or January, and that the speed bumps would be incremental. If you where on a 1Mbps uncapped service you would be bumped up to 3Mbps, 3Mbps would become 5Mbps etc

Last I heard now is that for R799 the bump would go to 4Mbps and not 5Mbps,
and there is still a loose date around this, basically over the next few weeks, now I don't have a clue if that means 2 weeks 3 weeks 4 weeks, or more.

Any official feedback would be great, but if any Amobia users have had this speed bump already can you share anything with us?

I called on Friday, to find out the date, the sales guy said, either this week or next month.. or may be never, if i don't see any changes on Friday, i'm definitely moving my business somewhere else.

Lol maybe never. Classic , I have a feeling wont be anytime soon. I gave up hopefully they will have to shake up things due to other isp dropping prices.

Yeah, been hearing the "over the next few weeks" story since December, so pretty much I gave up as well.
It seems like they don't have a plan, so I guess the upgrades will happen when they happen.

I had a call out of the blue late yesterday afternoon, Amobia wants to move my antenna to a different high site, so I asked abotu the speed again
I was told that they have pretty much completed the infrastructure upgrades and it should not be long now, I hope that means in month end?

Randpark
They wanted to move me to a tower in Randburg rather than Cresta.
No LoS to Randburg though, but they did pop a mesh antenna up for me.

My line got upgraded, but it makes no difference to downloads as they throttle torrents and nzb's to death.

Can't wait for another option.

Amobia + uncapped = problems. Tried it & went back to 2mbit adsl for "bulk" data usage.
I use their capped account strictly for sip trunking and as a backup to the dsl. Cheaper than diginet and more stable than a dedicated adsl line.

Yeah they offered me this too...I am not willing to pay R49 per gig...that is a rip off.

Fair enough. Have you tried a capped product from them? IMHO it is a world of difference - but only cost effective for very low data usage!!

Hey guys
I've signed up with Amobia on the 6th of this month (No Telkom line available in my complex).
All was good with them at the time (any downloads including nzb's and torrents) but since then (about the beginning of last week), the nzb and torrent downloads are basically non-existent. Is it the same for you guys?
PS. All other downloads (youtube, updates, etc) are at near full speed.
Thanks
