I sent a pm to amobia with a link to this thread, asking them to give an official update in regards to the upgrades, but no answer yet.

Offtopic: Is anyone else from cpt having problems with their connection,in the last few days? especially, slow youtube/video streaming and sluggish browsing? Usually after 7pm?

Hey sergie, also experiencing the slow speeds and high latency. Have sent a mail through to support with tracert and speedtests from myadsl and saix.net Maybe you could do the same so we can solve the issue?

log a ticket at
http://www.amobia.com/contactus.html

they normally fix your problem the next day if you log it after 7pm

I've been exchanging emails with support for a week now and they changed a few things on my connection, but there is no difference.
It seems that after 7pm someone flips a switch and everything slows down. This was happening before the holidays as well.
Curiously enough, everything seems to be much better today so far.

I've updated my ticket with them two days ago but haven't had an answer yet.
Anyway I think it might be better to open a new thread instead of high jacking this one :)

Awhile back we/I had a similar issue after 18:00. The technician the following day would phone and ask if everything is okay and by that point it was. And by 18:00 again the problem would arise. So would be an endless loop; until a server tech phoned the one day and worked late just to experience the issues I was having at that time. We managed to figure out what the problem was (external gateway load balancer) so hopefully we can do it again this time round. It does help having the traces and speedtests sent through to the support desk.

If you run a trace to newportal2.amobia.com what are your ping times? This will determine if its an internal or external issue as you should probably average around 20/30ms

Just ran it:

Tracing route to newportal2.amobia.com [41.206.194.50]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.8.1
2 35 ms 20 ms 28 ms cpt-nas-r1.amobia.com [196.32.232.133]
3 35 ms 26 ms 25 ms cpt-br-tra-r1.amobia.com [196.32.232.129]
4 28 ms 26 ms 31 ms newportal2.amobia.com [41.206.194.50]

So it looks like internally everything is normal. Will run it again when everything is down the drain again.

You'll probably get the same result. So basically it looks like its the external gateway which is what we experienced a while back. Will try and get hold of a server tech tomorrow and see if we can narrow down the problem. If you trace to Google.com you show get around 60ms as its located in JHB. What is the IP on the 4th hop?

Were the changes made just now? Because I can definitely tell the difference.

Here's a trace I did about an hour ago:

Tracing route to www.google.com [197.80.128.40]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.8.1
2 30 ms 12 ms 31 ms cpt-nas-r1.amobia.com [196.32.232.133]
3 * * * Request timed out.

5 171 ms 199 ms 165 ms 196.41.144.34
6 176 ms 169 ms 186 ms gigabitethernet5-1.cpt-hscore-1.mweb.co.za [196.28.178.65]
7 175 ms 196 ms 201 ms tengige0-0-0-2.11.cpt-p-1.mweb.co.za [196.28.178.97]

11 193 ms 176 ms 196 ms 197-80-128-40.jhb.mweb.co.za [197.80.128.40]

It was like that from around 6pm up until now.

Here's one I did a minute ago:

My speed got bumped up for a few minutes last night, then connection dropped and was back to normal again...
Wonder when these upgrades will finally happen, it's been months since they announced them.

I have had endless trouble with Amobia. I have spent more in phone calls to support than anything else.
