Hi All,

I live in Johannesburg and we do not have Telkom Lines so we cannot get ADSL. I asked professor Google to provide me some names for some wireless ISP's and came across Amobia Communications, who are based in Stellenbosch Cape Town. I just wanted to share how my experience has been with them. This is really just a heads up for those of you who may be considering them as an ISP in the future.

Amobia came to my residence and did a line of sight test. The test was successful and about two weeks after the test they came and did the wireless installation. I was super excited to finally have an internet connection. I used their services for about 3 months until I couldn't anymore. Their network was so unstable. After many emails back and forth to their support team, along with countless phone calls, I cancelled the service as no-one could fix the latency issues that I was experiencing. I play games online like Grid auto sport and Battlefield 4 and my experience was at times mediocre, but mostly horrible. My ping to local battlefield 4 servers was averaging about 200 ms. This is far from ideal, however I acknowledged the fact that i was using a wireless connection and understood that it will never be perfect.

I did several ping tests and sent the results through to Amobia, but as mentioned earlier, no one managed to stabilize my connection. My line quality was averaging between a D and B using (http://www.pingtest.net/index.php). Just opening command prompt and doing a continuous ping to www.google.co.za showed very sporadic results. 147ms, 50ms, 900ms, 1440ms, back to 40ms and so on.

In a nutshell, if you are a gamer looking for a wireless option, I would not recommend Amobia. I am using afrihost LTE and have had zero issues to date. The Average ping is about 30-40ms on local Battlefield 4 servers. On the other hand if you are simply looking for an internet connection that you will use for basic browsing and some youtube videos then in my experience Amobia will work.

I hope this is helpful :)
