Amobia

Cool - good luck.

Amobia should really get a rep on these forums. I think its just me and two other guys that normally deal with Amobia questions - and I canceled my Amobia account 6 months ago already ;)

Why did you cancel your account at Amobia?

Because they told me I was downloading too much. I was their first customer on uncapped (2mbps) and when I hit 50GB they emailed me and politely asked me to slow down a little. I told them that they are welcome to throttle me but I am not going to slow things down on my side. I canceled and got Mweb uncapped ADSL. 2613 GB later and I still have not heard a single peep from Mweb.

Edit : In the 2 years that I was with Amobia I spent about R49,000 and did a total of 490GB. So you could say I was a very loyal customer.

well either shaped or unshaped i dont think gaming will be that bad i i played wow on screamer with an avg latency of between 250 and 400ms. ( used an app called battleping)
so would be doing the same here. 3MB connection might be nice and all that but the 1MB will do just fine :)

i wish some1 could tell me how local pings are like... I'm close to getting this but if I cant play on a semi decent ping to local servers then i might as well stick to my 3g. Can any1 do some tests?

Thanks in advance

Well im stuck with either getting Amobia or the new Cell C pack, not sure which would be better...

Its *** being at the mercy of telkom

well i can limit myself down to probably 1 or 2 gb's, the main point for me is reliability I dont mind a slower speed as long as it stable

agh sadly an unforseen issue came up and iv had to go with cell c's 5gb data stick, so hopefully it will be ok.

Appreciate the input anyways

I might be wrong, but the latencies has nothing to do with capped or uncapped...?

Capped line is unshaped and uncapped line is shaped. Hence the difference in latencies.

The capped is also via webafrica I think and uncapped via mweb.

Well I have a few hours left in the month and 1GB to blow so I though I would fire up the old Amobia connection and see what I can do with it. Torrents are running at max speed, 120 KB/s so at least they do not shape their capped accounts like some ISPs do...

Edit : Package is the 1GB Capped on 1mbps @ R99 per month. I keep it as backup just in case... Almost never use it.
