Do you pay yearly the R2k or is it once off and just normal licence fee for the other years?

Pay it once - keep the plate for eva or until you sell it to someone else.

If you need to writeoff the car, you have to "uplift" your special plate, and install a normal one (Documentation only), and then writeoff the car under the normal plates. Costs about R150 for this process where nothing actually happens.

If you want to sell the car and the plates, don't uplift the plates before you sell the car.
