Amy Winehouse predicted she would die at the age of 27.

The Rehab singer — who passed away at her home in Camden, north London, on Saturday (23.07.11) — believed she would become one of a number of music stars in the "27 Club", which includes Jimi Hendrix, Doors singer Jim Morrison, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin, and pass away at that young age.

She also had an "obsessive" personality when it came to drugs, alcohol and food.

Her friend Alex Foden, who once lived with the musician, said: "Unfortunately, Amy had a very obsessive personality. She did everything to extremes, especially when it came to food and drugs. She loved food.

"But she'd either have binges — eating loads before running up to the toilet and getting rid of it all again — or she'd go up to four or five days without eating, surviving on alcohol, drugs and sweets.

"Amy always told me she thought she would die young and that she knew she'd become part of the '27 Club'."

Alex claims her problem with drugs became so prevalent she would sometimes get through £1,000 worth of cocaine in one night, because she would be paying for all her friends to get high as well.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper, Alex explained: "Amy was very generous so she'd pay for all the drugs — mainly coke, heroin and cannabis. At her worst she could get through about £1,000 worth of gear in 24 hours. Her limits were incredible, but she usually knew how much she could take.

"Because heroin depletes the sugar levels in your blood, she used to mainly survive off sweets."

However, the five-time Grammy winner still had plenty of time for those around her, often cooking up huge feasts for her pals.

He said: "She was incredibly clean and tidy at home, and could be a real matriarch, looking after everyone and cooking for all her friends and family.

"At the heart of it, Amy was simply a lovely, bubbly Jewish girl who wanted to be loved."

Meanwhile, a memorial concert is being planned for Amy, with her father Mitch planning to get together a huge line-up of music stars.

A source said: "There will be no shortage of people wanting to sing. She struck a chord with so many. It's an idea at the moment but hopefully the balls can be set in motion over the next few months when it isn't so raw."

Some friends she had... or were to high and reliant to care?

Shortly after her death, someone mentioned the '27 club' the other day, although it was in reference to Justin Bieber with loads of tongue in cheek.

What BS!!! predicting her own death....... she's the one responsible for her death, she's the one that could have avoided it.

Drugs are illegal and everyone knew about her drug habits. Surprising why the drug dealers don't get caught even though she's been an addict for so long. Cut the supply and help the entire world.

Most people predicted Amy Crackhouse would die sooner than this actually.

Come on, she was a crack & heroin addict, bulimic, anorexic, alcoholic, smoker... It was just a matter of time before one of those got her.

+1

Also thought about what her parents said about opening a foundation to help people with drug problems. Maybe I'm being cynical but I think the parents should just shut the fck up and grieve in quiet. They couldn't help her, maybe she didn't want help but they're really in no position to be acting all noble. She was a druggie, why does everyone want to suddenly honour her and make her out to be something great. What a waste.

Yeah, cut the supply, drive up the price, and make it even more profitable to be a ruthless dealer.

Wasn't there a death clock where you could bid on when she'd pass? I wonder who got closest?

I can understand people who try drugs such as coke, weed, lsd, e, shrooms etc... but wtf - HEROIN?? What makes a person want to try that? Obviously I'm wet behind the ear regarding this, but still, it baffles me that people still want to try heroin when its so addictive and besides the fact that you inject it in to your bloodstream... Even eating disorders and understandable... but Heroin... wtf :/

People have been using opioids for thousands of years. As well as being an effective pain reliever and anasthetic, it also produces a state of grandiose and lucid euphoria; stronger than the kind generated by other drugs. Opium used to be produced pure enough to smoke, and was widely available until the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th cenury. Great Britain even fought multiple wars in the Far East to maintain its production and trade!

Drug prohibition has created an environment where, because of the risks and costs of transacting, potency matters most to end-users, and dealers are happy to fulfill this demand because it allows them to cut down the purity of their productive and create more doses from the starting material, which will still be highly potent when injected, but is dangerous for users because they do not know the full content of the final substance they purchase. Ideally this type of potent and potentially dangerous drug should only be produced by professionals who can guarantee the content and dose so as to make it safer for users.

I predict I'm going to have lunch at 12!

let's not get stupid about this ok. she KNEW about "the 27's club" and wanted to become one the "legends". go do some more research on this if you don't want to then get the book.
stop all this rubbish you lot are talking.
this "27's club" is almost like a cult with these fools. they want to be on that list and nothing is going to stop these people. if you watch the continual downward spiral from the time they have reached the goal of becoming famous, to the time of the death, at age 27, you will notice the trend. watch lohan. they don't care about anyone or anything. nothing will stop them in their quest to become a part of this list. they are a danger unto themselves. nothing around them matters because they are aiming for the age of 27, and when they do "off" themselves, they will found alone. they will do it when no one can find them to revive them that's how obsessed they are with dying at the age of 27.
kurt cobain, heath ledger, just 2 good examples of "the 27 club".

Yeah, she just wanted to be remembered I rate. Its sad that people go down this route and even sadder that her 'friends' didn't get her help.

Considering the cause of death is still unknown I'd say there is plenty of doubt about it.

Hey but don't listen to me Celine I'm just a rational dude that doesn't jump to conclusions with nothing to go on but some vague prediction made by a drug-addled celebrity.
