An app to hide those un-hidable apps

Dunno how long it will last but...

Occasionally, an app escapes the watchful eye of Apple’s review team and gets released on the App Store despite ignoring Apple’s stringent rules for third-party iOS development. HiddenApps by David Goelzhaeuser, a 15-year-old German iOS developer, is one such example.

The whole point of this free application is to let you hide Apple’s stock apps from your Home screen, like Passbook, Newsstand or Stocks – no jailbreak required.

Ah, this is why I stay away from Apple. You may have bought the device but it's not yours to use as you will.

Are they able? Probably. Would they? Very unlikely unless the app posed a major security risk.

I think there was some "kill switch" type thing that was muted way back in earlier iOS versions but I've never heard of it ever being used, even with other "dodgy apps" (that stole info etc) in the past, so doubt they would ever do something like that for this.

Yes, of course, but let's say you prefer Chrome to Safari. You can hide Safari in your last screen and browse in Chrome, but whenever you click on a link in an email, it will come up in ... Safari. Hiding apps is not enough. They are still there, lurking in the background.

That's the trade-off you make. You accept the Apple way, and you know where your link is going to appear. You know THAT it will appear. With the Esteemed Competition of the cute little green robot, you can specify exactly which program is to receive URLs. And if you don't know what you are doing, you can turn your phone into an unusable mess. I know, enough people bring me their non-Apple phones: "I just changed some setting and now I can't get online any more. Do you know how to fix it?"

There is a programme you can download on your Mac which you can then use to hide those apps. Only problem is that they reappear if your phone restarts.
