On Thursday Eskom, our national power utility, surprised the country by announcing Stage 1 load shedding.
This first-tier power generation reduction saw Eskom cut the power it produced by 1 000 megawatts. While not as severe as the nationwide revolving blackouts seen nearly a decade ago, the announcement was a reminder of the power crisis in 2008 that literally plunged sections of the country into darkness.
On Friday morning, Eskom cranked its load shedding efforts to Stage 2, doubling the generation reduction to 2 000 megawatts after the "loss of additional generation units overnight". The power rationing continued on Saturday.
The rolling blackouts brought about by load shedding is tangible manifestation of the crisis Eskom chairperson Jabu Mabuza highlighted during a press release earlier this week - before the load shedding started.

Last time they did load shedding, it was because the Guptas wanted to manipulate the country into signing a nuclear deal with Russia, of which they stood to make billions. So, I wonder what they want now?

That's fine just continue to plunder state resources and watch it all fall apart. The Western World did warn you numerous times but you would not listen. This load shedding is just the tip of iceberg of how bad it can really get.

Erm... MORE MONEY... there's that 67% hike they want bro. And now they're going to shaft all of us to get it.
They are just like loan sharks.. you can't/won't pay they send the henchmen over.

And by the way I was speaking to some friends in the US over the weekend. Its time everyone realises the overseas community doesn't give one flying fsck about Africa anymore.
 
Eskom: despite mismanaging funds, give us more money!
Public: fsck you, manage the power of the country responsibly and stop hemorrhaging money
Eskom: Fine, have some blackouts, we'll hold you ransom until you give in to our demands
 
Ducks coming home to roost. Years of looting, useless administration, and jobs or pals leaves you right here where we find ourselves. Where Eskom is insolvent and unable to pay their debts.
 
It will become here like any other useless African country.. Power for 4 hours a day.. you survive using renewable energy and/or inverters with a generator when the batteries need charging
 
A friend visited Nigeria 10 years back. Every desk had an extension cord attached to a generator/inverter lying next to it. Power went off, plug in extension cable, power came on, unplug extension cable. People just accepted it.

OT. Friends group were also sent a picture of their taxi driver and told not to get into a car driven by anyone else.
 
And still no arrests, no prosecutions, no recovery of 100's of billions looted:thumbsup:
