Apple makes all of the Android manufacturers look like idiots.

Instead of making a quad or even octo core CPU, which nobody needs, they simply make a really really fast dual core CPU. And its very power efficient.

I wouldnt exactly call it smashing everything though it is quite capable.
The problem with benchmarks like that is they are not accurate comparisons due to differences in architecture.

I'm also interested in getting the new mini. I had the current model for all of 10 minutes before the missus claimed it as her own.

Yes A7 is an extremely impressive piece of architecture. Actually the most impressive thing is that they fit the same SoC into the 5S.

Personally I'm going to try to get the Retina Mini around about Feb/March time I think.
 
Still trying to decide if i go for the mini or full. On the one had I tell myself that i have a touch screen phone and so don't need something that size + it acting as a 2nd screen + readability is a win which is useful for use as an impromptu cloud netbook with keyboard while the mini is tiny.

same time phones are getting bigger and begining to think tablets 9.7' and 13' might be the coming norm
 
I think there will always be a place for a smaller tablet. Think of it as consumption vs production. If your main use is reading, 7-8" is ideal because it's one-handed large book size. 5" phone is actually too small for comfortable reading. Then again doing real work - which some people do on tablets (hence free iWork for new iPads) - requires a bigger screen, so 10" or whatever. There's a place for both.
 
Nice review, just love the hardware, but with the same closed software architecture I just won't be going there.

Rather have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 with poorer hardware, but with much better software.
