ANC Twitter account "hacked"

"Mischievous characters" have taken over the ANC's old Twitter handle @MyANC_, the party has said.

From their own tweets, it seems more likely that they changed their old/original Twitter name from MyANC_ to MYANC, and that the old discarded name was grabbed by an unknown person, who copied their account look.

It would seem so. I have replaced the text from the News24 article with our own, and changed the headline.

The ANC had to create a new Twitter account after its old account was hacked in an act of “mischief”.

That seems wrong, unless the ANC states that to be the sequence of events, but even so, such a claim would not make sense, given that they could simply then have restored their access to their original account, with Twitter's help.

It is fascinating how much wrong reporting happens all over the place. The ANC changed their old account @MYANC_ (with underscore) to @MYANC (without underscore) on Friday. They then made the mistake of not holding on to @MYANC_

Now the media all over reports it as the "account being hacked" and in typical ANC fashion it is everyone else's fault. I am still fascinated that their account does not have a verified status.
