ANC turns on SABC

It is surprising if you take it at face value.

ANC leaders were reportedly unhappy with the national broadcaster for becoming embroiled in the succession debate between Mbeki and Jacob Zuma, his successor as ANC president, and taking a side which manifested itself in its reporting.

The real motivation is apparent right there. Commentary on the divisions within the ANC will become verboten under the new NWC. The ANC will become even more inflexible in its internal matters as it strives to restore party discipline. I fully expect a purge to begin manifesting itself before the 2009 elections.
 
Its good if they are serious about this, but they are most likely doing this to control further bad Zuma press.

You guys seem to be missing the point - what we have here is the ANC admitting that the SABC was it's propaganda machine. So all that crap about the public broadcaster being unbiased, free and fair was all lies (even though we all knew it), and they should both be called on it. The SABC, together with the ANC, should now issue a public apology for deceiving the public all this time.

Seems the SABC aren't sure if they most be pro Mbeki or pro Zuma.
Sure aren't pro DA:D

We all knew it was the ANCs lapdog - so when they admitted it, I completely failed to see the relevance in that statement.

Makes one realise the bullet we missed with that "60% stake" the ANC wanted in it.

The problem is that any punitive action would take the form of simply replacing the Mbeki approved SABC board-members with Zuma/ANCYL/Cosatu ones. The reaction that you quite rightfully suggest would be used to justify a New! Improved! SABC which is the same puppet show with new strings. This is why I said the admission was only interesting if taken at face value. In reality, an SABC purge has been in the offing since Polokwane:
