The ANC Youth League has written to the Public Protector alleging that the City of Cape Town's failure to provide electricity to the Makhaza informal settlement in Khayelitsha had caused the death of an eight-year-old boy.

The league wrote in a letter to the protector on Thursday that the boy, Siyamthanda Qwele, was electrocuted after he stepped on an illegal power line on a playing field in Nkanini in Makhaza earlier in August.

“Siyamthanda Qwele is one of many victims who died due to illegal connecting of electricity in Khayelitsha and people are killed by electricity (illegal connections),” the league wrote in a letter to the protector.

“There have been calls and protests by the community against the City of Cape Town requesting the ‘city’ to electrify the area.

People of Nkanini (Makhaza), Khayelitsha are compelled to illegally connect electricity from other areas.”

The league said the people of Makhaza were are unable to access information through electronic media “because of absence of electricity”.

They were also compelled by “circumstances created by the city” to buy non-perishable food as they are unable to buy fridges to store their food.

“Like water, toilet and other basic necessities, electricity has become a basic necessity the people cannot go without.

Do these children not learn from their mistakes ?

How long before they get presented with a list of all the ANC-run areas without electricity.

And I presume the adsl lines are ready next to the pc's just waiting for the power plug.

Blame, blame, blame, blame, blame...

Ever heard of taking responsibility? Oh, I forgot, this is ANCYL, they've never heard of the word.

LOL hey ANCYL idiots - here is a solution - help stop these people from stealing electricity, there problem solved. Oh wait - you and your buddies in the ANC promised people free electricity before the elections.

Makhaza is the place where the toilet debacle took place and where the ANCYL destroyed toilets that had been erected. Makhaza is the place where Vuyokazi Matanzima's (the DA leader of Nkanini) shack was destroyed after she exposed the local ANC councillor for corruption in the area. The ANC councillor was selling homes (shacks) to residents. Can you fscking believe it?

So that is what is going on in Nkanini right now, which is why Juju is trying to shift attention away. This complaint is just another case of ANC misdirection...

If this electrocution-due-to-illegal-connections phenomenon is really a big problem (which I don't doubt) then it's obviously not isolated to Khayelitsha. Quite convenient then for the ANCYL to go and bitch about an incident in the evil heart of non-ANC land known as the Western Cape. When have they ever lifted a finger to do anything positive for anyone...until now of course? And how about the rest of the country, guys? Let me guess, everywhere else it's just peachy, right?

Makhaza informal settlement = a bunch of scavengers & parasites who have stolen the land they're squatting on and want everything else provided for free.

All a diversion tactic... ANCYL are in so much poo they have to appear to be fighting 'For the people' - just so they keep some voters.

I find it quite amusing that when I don't pay my electricity or water bill the Council cut switch my water/lights off. No-where does it say that electricity is a right, and although water is a right; water pressure is not.

We should complain to the puplic protector to protect us from dribbling idiots in the ANCYL.
The ANCYL is just a polite word for the mentaly disformed social club of south africa.

My Brother worked for the Municipality in the Ermelo region (where those protests in the Wesselton township broke out a few months ago).
Whenever they wanted to go in to shut off the water supply because no-one was paying, their lives would be threatened. He had a few really close calls, and ended just saying pharkit, it's not worth it...

And here we have the end-result of a culture of entitlement. Wonderful, isn't it?
