Received an sms from 12000 that my Contract sim has been registered with RICA. Checked on vodacom site and that also confirms that. That is great except that I haven't registered yet.:wtf:

Is there any way to find out where and who registered my number?

Contact Vodacom?
 
As a RICA agent I can tell you that the RICA system does not show anyone who/when/why you were registered. You would have to go through official channels to obtain info like when you were registered and by whom (under what AgentID). The only info directly available to me is AgentID info. I can pull the info of a specific agent using their AgentID. That is about it.

If you want, you can PM me your mobile number and I can check if you are RICA'd or not, according to the official RICA systems at least.
 
Well I never RICA'd my phone. Then one day I get a call from Vodacom offering me a Top Up 75 package, which I accepted due to the price they offered it at. The guy on the phone says that he sees I am already RICA'd. I said I am not. He says ok and carries on getting my other details. So a few weeks later I'm on the Vodacom website and I see I can check my RICA status and it says I have registered. So now I don't know what the deal is either.

@ld13: do you mind if I PM you as well?
 
The theory is easy to figure out. They don't have to cut you off in 7months time if you have been RICA'd. Who cares if you don't actually go see them. :=) Just another public service.
 
I found the RICA process at the Pavilion Vodashop rather unsafe, you just filled in your details on a page that already had a bunch of other people's details. Yes the guy checks your SIM & proof of address but I could've just about written anything or seen other subscribers details

Maybe I am just paranoid, But if someone are able to just register me on RICA, what else can they do with my information?
 
I'm guessing the store you took the contract out with back in the day rica'ed you. The stores can check their base and take a shortcut.
 
Same here. I got RICA'd without doing anything. My theory is that the service providers are just randomly RICA'ing people. If I were the CEO of a large cell provider, I would just say, "Oops system glitch" (and maybe pay a small R20 million fine) rather than cut off all my customers when the deadline arrives.
 
mate of mine bought a sim from one of these Pakistani cellshops and told them he didn't want to Rica, he slipped them a hundred and they registered fake details

Do you mean something illicit and dishonest - I'm shocked that this would happen in SA...

Seriously, there will always be a few suspect characters processing RICA registrations but probably far less that in government departments I'd has at a guess!!
 
Come on most corner shops here in JHB write that they have rica sim cards ready to buy. Lol RICA is a joke.
 
On 8 December 2010, we received official confirmation that the RICA (Act 21 of 2010) cut-off date has been extended from 31 December 2010 to 30 June 2011. This means that existing customers who have not yet registered for RICA will NOT be disconnected on 31 December 2010.

However let's not leave this for the last minute guys , we need to do it ASAP for those who still need to.

Can we find out who RICA'd her number, because it wasn't either of us?
 
Hi Guys

Sorry for asking, but where on Vodacoms' website can we check if our numbers are rica'd, or is there any other online resource we can use?
 
I bought a cell c sim to test the signal last month. The sales guy activated the sim in front of me and did not request my details (such as ID book and rates bill), when I asked him if he needed my details he said that the sim card had already been RICAed.
