Android 3.1 Update - When in SA?

Man, a table with Android on would be awesome! Just imagine placing your coffee cups or beer glasses on it... Oh wait, that's just ruin the table.

Installed and running 3.1 on SDK Oh man this is sweeeeeet.

The OS is allot better as well as the widget support.....

I'm guessing it will be a while before it gets here just like with Blackberry OS 6

Is it very different from 2.1? My Defy is on 2.1 I think and can upgrade to 2.2. It is a pity I wont be able to upgrade to Gemmerkoekie. Oh well. :-(

I'm waiting for the tablet+mobile OS that will hopefully come in the next few months.. Then Android will truly be a leap ahead ( as opposed to just a few steps )

chalk and cheese difference.

Speed, yes there is also a crap-load of new device support, gonna take me a while to work through the new API's, cant wait to get my hands on some Android@home devices.
Lets just say I dont see this coming to phones within the next 6 months. New Phones yes, updates I dont think so.

If Anyone wants to see how it looks, all you need to do is Download the Android SDK from http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
You dont need step 3+

Just open the Android SDK download the Packages you need like Android 3.1 api and Create a Virtual machine then click Start to launch it.
Same can be done for 3.0 and so on.

Also grate for using Android Apps on your PC if you ever feel the need. (Just note 3+ going to kill your PC if you are running something slow)

I have a i7 Quad and have no issues

I heard that Android 3 wasn't polished enough and tablets like the Xoom was released too early. I hope this fixes the "problems"...

DO WANT ANDROID TABLET!

I presume 3 or 3.1 is designed for tablets only, or will it operate on smartphones too?

Most of those issues was addressed already 3.01 but 3.1 is out for Xoom already. When the other manufacturers going to make it available for their devices is totally dependant on them, but according to new Google Update agreement it has to be within 18 months(Still to be worked out) but for new products only, on old ones you going to have to wait for the XDA hackers.

@elimentals why no SD card support? If android 2.x can do this, why not 3.x?

Asus Eee pad does, I can not say why Xoom's is not supported my thinking its the way they implemented the file system

I see there are custom kernels that enable SD card access for the Xoom, so it's not impossible. I really like the hardware specs of the Xoom, and it should be here soon. My contract runs out this month though, so the HTC Flyer may be my best bet.
