I have decided to pair my phone as a portable music player on my car's sound system. This works well, but what bothers me is that by default it plays all audio files, including WhatsApp voice notes :o, downloaded notification tones, etc etc.

Is there a setting to tell it to only play from a certain folder?

LG G3 (probably the same for most Android phones)

Nope my HTC and Sony don't do that, i think it must be a setting in the media player you are using.

Fck. That makes the phone useless as a media player. From the sound system's console, when I choose BT as the sound source, it automatically starts up the default Android music player on the phone. Perhaps I should install another music player and set it as default, if possible.

Ok, I see PowerAmp has that functionality.

Now to test if that will be the default player that opens when I select BT on my car's system.

Got no problems with Google play Music. Bit slow on my old 1gb ram phone but it works great. If you can go paid then Poweramp is also a great choice.

Google Play doesn't seem to have the option to select only certain folders to play music from
